Anyone interested in a roof rack colour swap?

    Hi all.

I have had my candy white RS wagon for a couple of months now and I will soon start my 'stormtrooper' conversion which revolves around gloss white and matte black surfaces. Not sure where I got it from, but I just think the simple black/white graphic looks sublty mean. And whether its a Skoda, a Porsche or an Aston Martin, I would be doing the same thing.

So with that in mind, I am looking at changing (among other things) my roof rails from silver to black. Now, I am happy to vinyl wrap them (as I will do to the mirrors and chrome grille surround), but I only noticed the other day that some non VRS Octavia's have black rails.

Therefore, I was wondering if anyone with black rails would like to do a straight swap for my silver ones?

I am in Melbourne, they are in perfect condition with no racks ever attached and as mentioned, just months old. I'll even help with the changoever.

PM me, or reply here if you're interested.

    Cheers,

    BEN

90TSI/77TDI (base models) Wagons have the black rails.
Anything higher than base model has silver.

I'm eventually gonna wrap mine, too. Gloss black

The colour of the rails is what made me choose the Platin Grey colour of paint. That way the rails did not stand out too much...

I hate the rails, and wish we could have them removed. It would make the car sit so much lower (visually) and look tougher.

Or at least if they had to come with rails, why couldnt they be the type that sit flush on the roof like the audi's have...?

Mmmm... The A3 style runners would look good, but I am not sure I could like no rails at all.

Guys, I will send a couple of pics tommorow, but they are the standard silver items fitted to all VRS wagons. I have looked and they simply unbolt with around 5 allen head bolts each side. Literally a 5 minute changoever job.

what would be involved with "plugging" up the holes and sealing them...ie leaving them off?

Not sure - I guess that's a question for a panel beater. But I assume the old fill, sand, paint thing would be logical. You would hope they can fill it with metal rather than some kind of bog though.

I may consider it, the Mrs was keen on silver too, to match for when we eventually get new rims.

Sounds too easy, would the process be something similar to what's outlined here ?
