Anyone had issues with clutch wear after a stage 1 flash?

    Hey guys,
I have a 2008 RS wagon with about 120k's on it and was thinking of doing an APR Stage 1 flash. Has anyone had clutch wear issues after getting this done? Had the Stage 2 flash done in my MKVI GTI and needed a new clutch within 12 months (a very expensive affair )

Not sure whether to risk it or not?

    Cheers
    Simon

    Manual or DSG?

Certainly on the MK7 guys are frying manual clutches. The DSG seems to take the additional torque a lot better.

Mine's a manual, as was the GTI. Only got about 10k out of the standard clutch after the Stage 2 flash Although I had a stage 1 flash in my manual Tiguan with no issues at all. Maybe the older generation clutches are a bit more heavy duty?

I'm not sure if the older TFSI models may have had a stronger clutch than the later models? Or maybe the newer engines produce more torque than the older ones when flashed? The current model clutches certainly don't seem to handle it

It's possible the manual Tiguan has a heavier duty clutch with a higher torque rating due to towing capacity of the Tig (2200kg). Compared to the GTI/RS which have lower towing capacity (1600kg).

Given that the DSG in the Tiguan is the stronger DQ500 it would follow that the manual would be a heavier duty clutch also. But that's just going by the vehicle weight and towing capacity.

That's a very common story with the new MQB platform cars. If you have a manual and tune it, then you also need to budget on replacing the clutch.

I think the new engines just make more power/torque than the old ones.

My TDI clutch lasted until 120,000km, with a tune! ... DMF was on the way out, though, so the whole lot got replaced.

Just came across this thread: JB1 6MT Clutch Update "Poll" - GOLFMK7 - VW GTI MKVII Forum / VW Golf R Forum / VW Golf MKVII Forum
On the face of it there a quite a lot of GTI owners with the JB1 mod that are NOT having issues with their clutch (yet!), although some are.
