it can happen that the piggy back connector will not allow you to put the unit fully back. Make sure you route the wiring to passenger side.and only one connector stays behind the unit.

Thanks again. The more I think about it the OEM kit from Poland looks a winner. I will most likely do the install myself (What could possibly go wrong???), but I'll make sure I can get the coding done by one of the places recommended before ordering.

Thanks for the tip Transporter. I'd seen on older posts about the connector causing some problems getting the head unit back in.
Also on the older posts there was mention of the need to buy "repair cables" to join the with non-compliant CAN bus cable fom Poland. Can anyone inform if that is still the case, and if there are any other bits I need to source before installing the Polish option?
