Angry Czech Tech - rjg's vRS

Thought it time to put a thread up on the vRS.

After having a Pug 206 GTi since 09 (great car and for sale if anyone is interested) it was time to update, mainly due to having a 2 year old running around. Having to lift him in and out of a 3 door whenever I didn't want to / couldn't use the mrs Elantra and having a dodgy back was no fun at all.

First choice was a Liberty, Mrs hated the look so that ruled them out. That put the XR5 turbo at the top of the list, unfortunately whilst it sounded and went brilliantly fitting a baby seat and a stroller plus associated stuff it simply didn't work. Not to mention the complete lack of tech. In this day and age how Ford can get away with offering so much less for the same money is beyond me. No cruise is just a joke on a car in this segment.

The Golf GTi was better (practicality wise) but the prices asked compared to what I was willing to pay didn't work.

I'd always had a thing for the Skoda, I blame the TDF for that, so when I saw they were at the money I was willing to fork out it was as good as a done deal. Well apart from actually finding a good one for sale.

But a few weeks later one that fit the bill did pop up, and here it is.

A MY11 liftback. Racing Blue, 6M and stock as they come with 53k on the clock. The only reason it was up for sale was because the previous owners wife had just got her licence and needed an auto (he went on to buy a new Superb), it was actually listed here too.

Here's some pics of how it was when I got it back in September (not much has changed lol).

First mod was to ditch the standard plates and fit some Euro style ones to fill out the spaces. I don't know what it is but I just don't think Aus plates look right on most Euro cars.

So despite the previous owner using decent megs products, it wasn't up to my standard when it comes to paint.

No matter, I still had a fair bit of detailing gear in the garage from when I had my old XR8 (featured in Street Fords, was a good thing until 20k of engine was left at Heathcote Park Raceway).

A proper wash and a clay bar resulted in this.

Excuse the bearded bloke, detailing is hard and thirsty work and I'd consumed a few beverages by this stage. Glassy paint is good though.

And then after a proper polish and wax

Since then, not much has happened. Got some seat lifter handle inserts off eBay, fancy skoda tyre valve caps and some other random small stuff.

Until today when I installed my Whiteline torque mount insert courtesy of MountainBikeMike. Huge difference these things make and being a manual none of the NVH issues either. The gearbag shifts feel a lot more positive and it has all but eliminated axle tramp. So much win.

    Now for more powers.

Sorry, missed this. NVH = Noise, Vibration & Harshness.

60k service done by Volkshome and then home to fit up the R8 coils. Service made her happy, R8 coils made her really happy.

Next item, a tune, has just been ordered. For the cost I've gone with a Bluefin, they seem to get a decent review and are damn good value if the advertised increase are true. Hopefully it arrives in the next day or two.

Isn't the advertised increase for an Octavia on the bluefin website old/wrong?

It is, I probably should have clarified that. The gains should be as advertised for the Mk 6 GTI.
