90TSI first service advice please.

It looks like my 90TSI octavia will have about 15500km on the clock by the time it gets its first service, which is due at 15k. What sort of damage am I doing?

Also, I am living in north west NSW, with no VW/Skoda people anywhere near. Can I have some advice for getting the correct service procedures followed by a local mechanic?

im going to say none.

that said, you should stick to the service schedule as closely as possible. but with the good quality engine oils they use, youll be fine. don't stress.

theres nothing overly special about oil changes on skodas. any qualified MTA approved mechanic should be able to perform this for you.

The 15,000km service on my 90TSI Octavia cost around $350 from memory. Skoda performed all of the usual checks and changed the oil and oil filter. I imagine you could go to any approved mechanic - just ensure they use genuine parts to protect your warranty.
Also, it would be a good idea to ask if they have the computer software to be able to do a diagnostic check and reset the service interval warning. You will quickly become irritated by the "Service Now!" words in the display and the beeping!

If your odometer is as wrong as mine is/was then you'll have done less than 15,000 "real" km anyway. IIRC, you can get away with +1000km before Skoda want to talk about voiding your warranty.

Your mech needs to use a 504.00 approved oil (Shell & Penrite have them easily available) & a genuine VW oil filter. Make sure he stamps the book.

You can reset that via the dash buttons if you are on fixed service intervals

I booked my 15,000 service at 14,000, and by the day of the service it was up closer to 16,000. No issues whatsoever.
Cost around $350 - vRS TDI.

I booked my 45,000 service 2-3 days ago, it was at 40,000... Now its at 41,500, so I guess we'll see what happens!!

Finally found a mechanic to do the oil change and inspection. A couple of the other local mobs gave me the standard "Skota? What is that a kia or something? What did you buy that for?".

The guy I'm booked in to services VW and reckons he can even to the diagnostic scan so all should be good. The funny thing was that when I was at the workshop, a bloke getting his Ford taxi worked on started raving about how good Skodas were, "especially the bigger one, an excellent isn't it called?"
