7DSG - Clutch packs getting replaced

Hi had my car in to check out wheel bearings and my dealer read my service history and asked about my DSG concerns.

My main concern was the shudder/vibration at low speeds mostly with some steering wheel lock and and sometimes a shunt when slowing and accelerating but nothing showed up in diagnostics.

He asked when my warranty expired (Jan 13) and suggested we replace the clutch pack, without a test drive!!!! He said it's a known issue and VW/Skoda are quite concerned that it's tarnishing the brands. Apparently it's a clutch pack from new supplier which should resolve issue permanently. Also as it's mechanical, the diagnostic tool will not pick up an issue with clutch pack.

Not sure how much is true but glad to get it done before warranty expires.

Wow, that's impressive service from a dealer. Perhaps you may wish to plug the dealer so others can share in great service.

Had mine done already. Had shudder under initial acceleration. Also new program 2 match. Made a huge difference to the vehicle. Way better to drive! It took my dealer near on 2 weeks to complete!

Well I'm guessing they only offer to do it when it's a little slow on the service business and they need some more bookings. Two weeks - ouch!

That's good to hear. I've had my 90tsi with the 7DSG for about 8 months, and so far only one strange shuddering issue. Hope it all goes well for you, and hope that if I get any issues I'll be sorted just as easily as you have / will be.

Car went in today. Not a great start the loan car which I am paying for is not in. Spoke to mechanic whole gearbox is dropped new clutch packs and 1mm shims between 1st and 2nd added to avoid slipping clutch. Also mentioned he had done heaps of them.

    Hopefully pick it up tomorrow.

Paying for a loan car (which is actually an oxymoron if you think about it) sounds like Lance Dixon. Richmond have never asked me for a cent for a car but Lance Dixon used to always want money when I went in for Land Rover service.

George always said that they will always have free loan cars for people who bought from them. I have a feeling the Audi guys pay though as I've seen people get charged for them. Our car is due for the 4yr service now, and so far despite chasing them up over what exactly it will be booked in for, we still haven't heard. My bet is that they will be super busy and have no loan cars. My response will be that I came IN PERSON in Sept to book it in and they were the ones stuffing around.
