Actually, the Octy feels a little smaller!!... Or maybe its just me.
I have to take the cargo cover out of the Octy when I head out camping. Didn't do that with the Sorento. >.<
That being said, I haven't been camping much since swapping. No tow bar, yet!!
I know what you mean, but I think the Octy is deeper and longer than the Sorento. The Kia loses space with the 3rd row of seat squashed into the floor and I also think the Sorento's cargo blind is set too low.

the Octy also has the very handy side storage pockets that I seem to be able to get plenty into.

I picked up my cousin from the airport a few months ago and the look on his face when he saw the Octavia was "what kind of idiot are you, as if all these suitcases will fit in here"

I opened the boot and he was like "what the hell, how is the boot this big"

Every single bit of luggage fit in the boot, with a little room to spare as well.

Any of the medium cars/hatchbacks (Octavia, Mazda6) have a larger load space than those sill SUVs (or is that CUV?). In fact you could fit heaps more in a Jetta's boot than a Tiguan/Yeti.

The term Soft-Roader is more applicable. Designed for soft/on road.
An SUV is more like a Caddy Escalade, or those huge American things.
They're the Sporty Utility Vehicles, not CRV's or Rav 4's.
