    The owner is the first owner, and hasn't been using the car for a while. Have negotiated down to about 20% cheaper then the other ones for sale, and has a few extras such as leather, mdi, nav.

    I'm sold on the price, just very wary of the risk.
    Just to check, at one stage ALL RS cars came with the Nav/Columbus unit. They still do. Leather with Alcantera is standard as well. Full leather became an option, but a dodgy service history wouldn't sway me for the full leather as I think the stock RS seats are better. So you are probably only looking at the MDI which from memory also became standard. The car could be perfectly fine, but even if it has been sitting about, why is the kms so high from the last service....doesn't add up. There should have been a service in there a long time back. It sounds like they missed one and are trying to avoid the big 60k one as well.

    yes, badly aligned wheels may cause that sound, also cheap - and expensive - tyres.

    2010 MY11 cars were the first to come with columbus satnav as std. I know, because when I bought mine, I specifically had to ask for a MY11 to get columbus (well, get it "free").

    I think you meant to say rear toe......and yes the issue was caused by a dodgy rear camber coming out of the factory. Mine never had it, but somewhere around 2009 it started appearing on brand new deliveries and as Brad pointed out a TSB was put out about it after people starting killing new tyres.

    My vRS came from the factory with -2.20 of camber each side , the tyres were shot in 19,000 km and noisey as. I had the rear camber set to -1.00 and got 3 times the mileage at the expense of some handling. There are 3 settings for mk.2 Octavias;
    2UA- Standard
    2UB-Scout
    2UC-vRS
    If you want decent mileage from your tyres on your vRS set to the 2UA specs.
    Back to the original question ,also be aware that there was a problem with 2009-2010 cam chain tensioners and I would factor in replacing that in the purchase.

    Inside wear not caused by camber so you changed the camber to fix up the inside tyre wear?

    We both know that excessive -ve camber or excessive toe-out will cause inside tyre wear. Excessive positve camber (like they used to run on x-ply tyres) or excessive toe-in will cause outsdie shoulder wear.

    If it's a steer axle & you drive on Australian roads then excessive toe-in will mainly wear the outside edge of the LHS tyre; excessive toe out will wear the inside edge of the RHS tyre.

    ZEI20t had it mostly right, he just left a bit out.

    I've seen cheap tyres that are pretty quiet and could get a fair bit of edge saw-toothing without rumbling - they didn't necessarily grip but at least it was silent as you speared into the shrubbery.

    I've also seen expensive tyres that needed x-rotation every 5000km or they would get a feather on the trailing edge of the blocks & howl like a tom cat.

    As you are fully aware, wheel alignment is dependant on the driving style & conditions & not just a factor of how the chassis is set up. I have to run really conservative settings on my car because 80% of the time I'm going in a straight line.

    It wasn't always an issue though, I've had 55k with plenty left and really even wear on our late 2008 delivered RS, and this issue cropped up about a year or so later so wonder if they changed the settings.
