2.0 TDI Golf vs RS FSI Skoda

Had a little bit of a dispute tonight with a friend who tried to tell me that the mk5 diesel golf is so much quicker then my skoda. I'm not the one who really cares about who is quicker but I tell you what, it got on my nerves. Even after explaining that the rs is basically a gti etc etc, he just finished with saying 'you might beat him to 30km/hr but that is it'.

Maybe it.s time to book a date at WSID!

Standard Golf 2.0TDI is 0-100km/h in 8.4 seconds with the GTD being a little bit quicker. GTI's and RS' are over a second quicker (6.9 for the GTI, 7.1 for the RS) so I'm not sure what your friend is on... It's a standard Golf isn't it?

Think you'll find the 0-100km/h for the 2.0tdi golf is 9.3sec.

I have read a few articles where it has been timed at 8.4 to 100 and I can say it certainly feels like it. Could've been a one off sure but I still find it impressive.

I don't know about that. My wife's tdi jetta is flashed tuned and it would be good for about 8.4 to 100. I've raced a mates mk5 golf 2.0tdi and left it for dead! You may have read 8.4 to 100 for a tuned golf. Even the mk6 brochure says 9.3 to 100km/h.

some vw owners (that i've met) r ignorant & won't accept the performance/quality/build of a skoda as being comparable to a vw/audi.
if only they bothered with some research!!

Yeah, in his dreams. He might have a point in discussing in gear acceleration where the diesel's torque talks (albeit brief and its only a guess). I'm sure most of us drove the diesels and know while impressive for such a frugal engine, the petrol is faster and winds out sweeter.

I was sitting in the RS the other day looking at the plastics (contemplating cleaning it) and it occurred to me that any one of cars I've had over the years would be showing scuffs all over the place by 15000kms. Not a single mark on the interior plastics of the Skoda and still as tight as the day I drove it off the lot. (I did have a dash squeek at one point, but that appeared after about 500ks of dirtroad driving and was sorted with a squirt of lube).

By the sounds of it, the only thing that he'll be beating me on is fuel economy!

I should offer to take him to the strip and have a case of beer or two up for grabs...best of 3!
