The MkV GTI was fine with oil up til 25,000kms when the oil light light came on during a trip to sydney. I didnt do an oil change at 22,500. Should have checked, but the car was not thrashed from purchase. It had a relaxing run in period under advice from motorsport engineers.
    Euro look 2... Mk2 love!

Manufacturers website. Generally under the Products tab - look for the TDS (Technical Data Sheet) if you aren't sure what you are reading then don't be embarrassed to send their technical department an email. I do it all the time for my job:

eg "Brand X maintenance manual specifies BP grease product ZZZ. We prefer to use Caltex/Penrite/Slick50/Woolies products. What is your equivalent to BP product ZZZ. Application is for xxx water pump with horizontal shaft operating X hours per day. Unit is mounted outdoors, temp range x, rain, service intervals X, blah... have a nice day thanks"

I'm assuming the Octavias have an initial 1000/1500/2000km run in service?

With the 6 during the "run in", I let it warm up by Nanny driving, but at temp drove it like normal/semi aggressive, but didn't stay at the same revs on highways/freeways for too long. Was fairly easy to do that with 6 gears, you can just keep changing down and up between 4-6th and changing the speed everynow and again over in the far left lane.

Has anyone asked why the bonnet doesn't have the insulation.....I'm wondering what the heat is likely to do to the paint on the bonnet.

Nope, no initial service. Dealer said to me "come back in a few months and we'll look over it but no oil change is due until 15,000km/12months."
I'm considering doing an oil/filter change at 7,500km but only because I have oil already. Keep in mind that if you are in the UK on variable servicing the first service might not be due until 30,000km (? something like that).

I've got the insulator - so I'm not concerned about heat - the 12+ stonechips are annoying though.

At a guess, production cost & engine bay temperatures; possibly the petrol engines are too quiet when the insulator is fitted.

Production cost: It's $110 as a spare part, so I'm guessing it's worth $10 at the assembly line.

Engine Bay Temperatures: There's a definite variation in temps between the insulated & non-insulated parts of the bonnet. In some ways, the bonnet acts like a big heat sink. I'd assume that everything under the bonnet runs a bit hotter with the insulator fitted.

Quietness: The petrol engine is fairly quiet. The insulator made very little difference to what I could hear. Maybe a calibrated instrument might pick the difference.
Diesels need all the help they can get.

    If your concerned, ask Skoda.

    Welcome mate.

On the oil change - VW now use a fully synthetic oil from the asembly line to first service- they advised me that this results in a longer run intime for the oil (compared to a mineral oil). Hence the advise for 15k.
I change mine at 15k (Edge 5W-30) nad she still hasn't required a top up since new and purrs like the proverbial.

On the insulator - I asked about it at the 1st service after Brads research, and the lady ordered me one and was also meant to be asking Skoda AUS whats the go, when even a base Golf has one. No reply yet.. (8 weeks latet) but ill be fitting mine to to give the bonnet paint more longevity, as mentioned $110.

    Good luck, and enjoy!
