'13 MK2 VRS Multifunction display - Average Fuel Consumption memory 1 & 2

With the multifunction display, when flicking through it there is:

* average fuel consumption (1)
* average fuel consumption (2)

Had a read of the manual and am I right in saying that average fuel consumption 1 & 2 has nothing to do with the single trip memory 1/2 i.e. resetting the trip memory does not affect average fuel consumption data ?

Or are these just 2 separate consumption figures based on when you last erased it ?

Any info is appreciated as to how this works.

1 is since journey start (if you stop the car for under 2 hours I think, still counted as a journey)
2 is long term consumption (this continues to average unless you reset it)

So if I reset '2' every time I refill the car, I'll get that L/100 for that tank of fuel.

You're better off using an app like Fuelly to track your l/100 rather than rely on the trip computer if you want accurate figures.

Yes, but then he will be able to compare the accuracy of the trip computer against Fuelly on a per tank basis and then know how he is actually doing on each shorter trip.
My Mk2 1.9D was nearly 0.3L/100 optimistic but my Mk3 is absolutely spot on.

For the OP the mk3 has 3 consumption trip features: the same short journey feature as the mk2; a "current tank" feature that automatically resets to zero when you refill; and a "long-term" which I think resets automatically at 99 hours. All can be reset manually though.

Just wanted to know how it works, i will occassionally do the manual calc. Don't really need to track it - as long as it is between 8-10, that's acceptable.
