1.8T - why no underbonnet insulation pad?

Does anyone have a clue why the insulation/sound deadener pad isn't fitted to the 1.8T?

Is it to save $$$ or a technical reason (like the engine is too tall).

There isn't one on my RS either. Don't know whether it's just cost cutting, or some technical reason? Either way, it doesn't sound any noiser than my golf which does have the pad.

I'm thinking more for the heat insulation properties.

Remember all the paint craizing & crowsfeet that holdens & fords used to get on the bonnet because the paint was getting affected by the underbonnet temps.
