Man you got the exact same setup I want for my TS, BBS wheels, twin webers, clean engine bay set up, clean interior, good condition paint job, man just gotta love the old cars. Was wondering since you've had the twin webers on for a while now hows the performance? significantly more power than the old set up you had before? and hows the fuel consumption? You reckon you could take some more photo's

From what I know GolfMan, You make a couple precise measurements, take a diamond tip saw, say a couple prayer's, then cut the springs.

Hahaha thats it. I have spend many many hours searching and have come to the same conclusion. Its the easy way out. Hard way (and has been done before with success) Is to actually cut a section of the strut and remove what ever desired length. Insert Golf MK1 strut inserts because their shorter. Buy Golf mk2 front lowered springs and top spring cap? Or coilover sleeves. Seems like a too much stuffing around. I am willing to try it one day though with a spare set of struts. Till then Ill stick with the diamond blade.

I was never gonna expect significant performance increase bolting twin carbs on a flogged out, bog standard FN 1.6 engine. But There is some slight performance increase, seems to have more poke through the mid rev range. It is a bit quicker but not quick enough. Sounds great though. Fuel consumption is a little higher but not so much that Im worried about it. Never been one to care about fuel consumption anywho. The way the carbs are set up I believe will work better for a 1.8L. Include a nice camshaft and I reckon it will be enough for these old passats. I could stuff around with the 1.6, bore, port & polish, cam, gears etc....But thats just wasted money when a mk3 1.8 will bolt in

So, been working on the Passat a bit more of late. Spent the weekend treating the rust with POR 15 products and placed sound deadening (edead) on the firewall and front floor pans.

Replaced the huge standard Passat B1 steering wheel with a new MOMO Prototipo. Had my eye on this wheel for a wheel. It keeps with the 70's style of the car that I desire.

Next up will be some dense foam for the floor, then I need to find a decent carpet dye to redo the original carpets. Some new tyres for the BBS will be next as well as some Recaros. Reupholster the dash with black suede. Bit of a list at the moment but its getting there

    Really nice, mate!

Those Prototipowheels are mint. I got one for my Uncle's 914/6 GT. looks excellent.

Have a serious think about doing the dash in suede if it's going to see a fair amount of sunlight.. I spoke to a very good upholsterer about doing this with my Mk1 dash and he said if it's not a show car, don't do it. Problem is, over time the sun makes them bubble and it's super hard to fix it. A friend of mine did his with normal auto carpet and it's held up for about 10 years.. So that might be an option, as it can breathe so you don't have the same issues.

The sound deadening definitely makes a difference. I like your approach here.

    Thanks Preen.

Thats good to know about the suede. Is that the genuine material or the 'faux suede' as they call it? Might have to do a bit of research on suede haha. Wasnt really interested in the other carpet materials as I wanted a race/rally look and something that will look clean.

Yea the wheel is great. Excellent quality as you would expect from momo and suits these 70's cars well.
