    My new TS

Hey guys, bought another 1975 Passat TS. Was first notified of it on Wednesday when I saw the link on this forum. Called the guy 9.30 am in the morning, got at his place at 10am, made a done deal at 10.30am. Pretty darn happy with it.

Rust is at a minimum, however the boot lid is rusted, but acquired a 98% rust free boot lid thanks to Nick_80. Little bit of rust under the rear quarter panel. Other than that the car is pretty darn straight rust free. Needs a definite respray as the paint on the roof has pretty much faded away and cracks in the paint are everywhere. And the dash is.....well......its a B1 passat dash doesnt require much imagination......cracked everywhere and the carpet on top of the dash has been glued down on by what looks to be industrial strength glue. The previous owner also put a type of anti cracking resin on it which I think over time gave it a "crocodile skin" like feeling on the dash which isn't pleasant.

The mechanical side is another story, steering is like wrestling Arnold Schwarzenegger in his prime, The engine runs not too bad, changing gears is abit "sloppy", Brakes are rubbish, has a sports exhaust system which I'm going to weld in more mufflers since its way too loud for my liking and doesn't sound that great and brings too much attention.

The interior is pretty decent for now. Seats are in OK condition and quite comfy as the TS came out with Recaro style seats. The back seat is in good condition but got an even better one from my Passat LS which is the most comfortable Thing I have sat on.

Driving down the highway I noticed that the speedo metre shows an additional 10-20 km/h on it, So while the speedo said 90 or 100 km/h I was actually doing only 80 km/h (which explains why sooo many people overtook me).

Plan is to upgrade to Mk 3 golf brakes all round which will solve my brake issue, and basically do a full resto. This car is going to be used as my DD so I want to resolve all mechanical issues ASAP. I've got a donor car (my LS) which makes life so much easier in regard to the little things.

I'll try keep this thread updated every now and then as I'm definitely going to need quality advice. Like on how am I going to fix the speedo metre so it shows me the correct speed.

Also any idea why my steering might be heavier than usual? On my other TS its quite light and easy to turn but the same doesn’t apply on this car.

looks like a nice project dude. The TS have a some nice little features that I wouldnt mind. Center console and seats That front spoiler looks crazy haha.

Could your steering be heavier because of the alloys that are on it? I run standard steelies on mine but when I temporarily ran 15x7 rims the steering had become alot heavier.

Pulled out the rear seat to have a look at the base of the car, abit of surface rust but nothing major.

I also inspected the brakes turn out my front pads are almost non-existent, I reckon I'm just going to replace the brakes all round the car with Mk3 golf calipers and disks. This will give me superior stopping power compared to these old rusted out dinosaur stoppers.

MK3 callipers on the front will require adapters.

MK1 Golf GTI discs and rotors are a direct fit.

    Early Audi 80 works too.

You'll have to watch your wheel clearance too, some combinations may not fit inside your wheels.

Seat Cordoba drums are a good option for the rear.

MK3 rear discs will work but you need to make a custom handbrake cable.

The stock brakes might clean up OK too with a bit of work.

Make sure you check all the hoses, they're same as MK1 Golf if you need ot order any.

I took your advice Pete, I cleaned up the stock brakes today and got new front pads and replaced a seized wheel bearing, they dont work too bad now, I'll wait to get some Mk3 rear's after I manage to hunt down some front Mk1 GTI calipers.

Went down to the wreckers today and picked up some front calipers from a 1986 Audi 80, They look to be a direct fit (Thanks for the info Pete)

However I got a problem now, I need/want to upgrade my Brake Booster and Master cylinder. But the set up is different to a Mk1, The original brake booster is sitting right next to the tower (Dont know specific name) the images below will show what I mean.

    The calipers I picked up.

Original Brake Booster, See how its directly next to the tower. Not sure if a Brake Booster with a larger diameter will fit straight on as it might hit the tower.

Now heres a couple of pics from the same model vehicle but with a bigger brake booster on it. I'm not sure how they accomplished it, maybe they relocated the brake pedal im not sure. If you know what car this booster came form or the model please tell, It looks to be different from a Mk2 and 3 because of the pattern it has on the front, aren't Mk2 and 3's usually smooth?

Any Idea what type of master cylinder this is?? Looks original??

If you have any idea's of how I should approach this please tell.
