    Your Favourite roads for 'dubbing

    Hi all,

Have been watching the clock at work, thinking about which way home I will go tonight when I thought I could start a new thread about our favourite driving roads. Not sure if there is one on the site, but I generally only look at the MkIV forum anyway so I thought I'd start it here....

Anyway, the format would be as follows:

    State:
    Location:
    Start/Finish:
    Time of Journey:
Level of Risk (traffic, cyclists, big cliffs!):
    Favourite things about the drive:
    Other Notes:
    Map:

So my first one will be......

    State:Victoria
    Location:Mount Dandenong
Start/Finish:Mountain Hwy, at the roundabout with Forest Road, Boronia / Burwood Hwy, Upper Ferntree Gully
Time of Journey: Whereis time: 27mins. I generally take 15mins, depending on traffic and weather.
Level of Risk (traffic, cyclists, big cliffs!):Alot of blind corners, cliff on one side, BIIIG drop on the other, trees on bends, the occasional Lance Armstrong wanna-be, moreso on the weekend. The odd slowcoach or old bomb.
Favourite things about the drive:The first hairpin, with the bus stop right at the apex. A very tight 2nd gear left corner that sundenly rises quite sharply after the apex, the 2 corners I call "the ferny couple". 2 2nd gear left handers in short succession with a slight right kink between them and finally the 2nd gear right hander towards the end after a fast downhill straight!
Other Notes: A nice, quick drive to get the blood pumping and the feet dancing. I like the undulating curves, the tight hairpins and feeling the suspension work. There is only 2 "pull out" places for slower cars, but good luck having that happen!

I have a few variations of this drive, the long one starting at the end of Canterbury road and finishing in Clematis at Wellington road is the favourite, this is at least a 35 minute drive though.

    Location: Great ocean road.

Start/Finish: Eastern View GOR 'gate' just past aireys inlet to Lorne.

Time of Journey: Depends on traffic and such and how much you value your life/car.10-15 mins

Level of Risk: traffic, cyclists, big cliffs, occasional blind corner. Drive late at night for less traffic and cooler air.

Favourite things about the drive: Climbing to a 95 meter high cliff with a near shear drop on the other side of it at cinema point, sweeping chicanes, incredible scenery(for passengers when their heads are out of the spew bag),

Other Notes: Just a great drive and one of the best in australiai reckon. Handy living a stones throw from it. Really really good drivers road, feel everything in the car working. For those after a longer drive you can keep going to apollo bay, nother 50 or so k's. Doing the longer drive on the 27th of march.

    Start/Finish: Hornsby, Pacific Hwy.
    Time of Journey: 2pm - 5pm Summer.
Level of Risk (traffic, cyclists, big cliffs!): Low.
Favourite things about the drive: Twists & Bends.
Other Notes: So nice the turns are tight and fast. Just need to make sure you slow down around the real tight bends if the view is not good like not far to see ahead.

    State: Victoria
    Location: The Black Spur
Start/Finish: Maroondah Hwy, Healsville through to Narbethong
Time of Journey:Depending on traffic, avge 20-30 mins
Level of Risk (traffic, cyclists, big cliffs!): Slow drivers are abundant, the occasional logging truck and nice big trees that dont forgive cars for hitting them!
Favourite things about the drive: The twisty sections with turn after turn, the scenery is amazing driving through some of Victoria's fern forests. Unfortunately much of the drive has been affected by Black Saturday bush fires.
Other Notes: Not one for passengers unless you take it easy or they have an iron gut. This has got to be one of the highest concentrations of tight corners in the country, I have had motion sickness from driving as well as being a passenger!!
