yaw rate / lateral esp sensor location

i was just at the wreckers before trying to find these sensors

looked on the steering column (took all trim off etc etc.) where i thought they should be but no luck... checked out like 6 cars too! Golf's, Bora's and A3

am i looking in the right spot or have i been looking in the wrong place?

would only 4motion/quattro cars have them? super lost...
