    Wiper conversion

    Hi all,

Just wondering, my 99 golf has those dreaded multi prong wipers and are crap. Spoke to my VW mate and he said that if i want aero wipers I need to replace the whole wiper assembly, being the wiping head and the wiper arms. VW want $40 per head and $60 per arm. Is it this simple or do I need to replace linkages also?

I think they're cheaper if you order from someone like German Auto Parts or MJM Autohaus. ECS Tuning has the front set for USD$120 + USD$46 for the rear (from a Polo). Expensive, innit?

    Yeah!!

Was thinking of heading to the wreckers to get the arms, if they have them intact, maybe also the wiper head also, then just put new rubbers in them....

I bought a pair of those aero 'euro' style wipers on ebay from england last week and they arrived today, and put them on the car. All up it was about $30 i think, and they look great, all it replaces is the arm!
I think i bought these ones:
(http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-Bora-Golf-MK3-mk4-92-03-upgrade-Flat-Wiper-Blades_W0QQitemZ360086479445QQcmdZViewItem?hash=it em360086479445&_trkparms=72%3A12|39%3A1|66%3A2|65% 3A12|240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14) but there are afew on there if you search 'golf wipers'.
Are those the sort of thing you are after?

Yeah Evan, that's them. If I have no luck at the wreckers tomorrow then maybe I'll look into these. I noticed that Bosch also sell replacement ones, but they don't have them to fit the early model MkIV's, only the later ones with the aero arm fitted. Sods!

Dude...don't EVER go to VW for something like these hehe. I just got a Bosch aero set from GAP for my mk3 vr6, and they're fantastic at about AUS $35. Well worth it obviously, and they last ages so I hear.

this sounds way to cheap did you get a full aero wiper kit or just aero style blades. i know i paid about 200 for my kit from vw for a full kit the same as the mk4 r32 fuzion has the same as me he may chime in.

All (at least most) post 2002 Golfs / Boras come standard with Aero Front wipers (mine has them), not sure what all the fuss is about, it's not just restricted to R32's. So yeah, you should be able to track the arms down from a wrecker that has one available.

Mate, these are just retro-fit blades, they do not change the arms. They have a multi-fit connector to suit various wiper arms.

I think there is some confusion here. I'm no Golf expert but I think early MKIVs got the traditional metal (crappy) style wiper arms and blades, whilst 2000.5+ got the nicer aero arms and obviously aero blades to suit.

Those cheaper links ~$35 are just the blades and not the arms like ope126 said.
