In the boot on the side of the spare wheel well there is a huge sticker with codes on it.
Each of the codes represents the options that were on the car when it left the factory.
Enter each code on this page -> http://igorweb.org/equidec/

Search each of these codes to see if remote locking is listed. That should tell you what's in the car.
If it comes up with central locking you can then look into getting a new remote for it.

Pretty sure I read recently in one of the 11-billion threads about these auto-window mods that you can't do it on a Polo. Search, I could be wrong.

VChecker plugs into the console port under the aircon controls etc on a MK IV, same as VAGCOM.

Thanks Just Cruisin and Fuzion, very helpful posts there. Ok the only mention I can see in all those codes is "4F1 = Central locking system".
So I take that to mean I have central locking only and no Remote locking/immobiliser?

They keys I have look exactly the same as the small one in the photo that Fuzion posted, however they do not have transponders in them, only a light.

So it looks to me as though remote central / immobiliser was an option for this model, not standard. That being said, is it possible to upgrade, either using a genuine VW system or aftermarket?

    Cheers,

    Sherwy.

If you have a 02+ you have the flipkey as an option. He may of lost or broken or damaged the previous keys. A replacement coded/programmed from vw is close to $600 almost i think still these days hence he probably took the cheaper option or got it done elsewhere or for half the price of the keyfob.

    Your key looks like so
(with or without the logo correct?)

    You can get this key

    internal

    and the second part

So what you can do is, inside your KEY has a transponder chip (probably easiest thing to call ti for you)

If you get a new BLADE for the flip key cut, get a pair of tweezers, take out your transponder chip move it to the new flip key. Get the second part of the key and program it to your car to unlock and lock you will then have least 1 flipkey for substancially less then what you would pay from a dealer.

    Does that make sense?

So YES you can get a flip key.
Read what i wrote dude, all the information you need is up there.

YOU can get a flipkey remote, you need the following parts as mentioned above and this will work for you.
    What’s behind you doesn’t matter..

If you have Central locking with radio remote control, interior locking & "safe" securing system (i.e. door LED) then the code on the boot sticker is 4K3

You would at least need to retrofit the proper Comfort Control Module with the radio receiver inside it.

Fuzion, I'm confused by your comments. I never asked for a flip key. Is a flip key the ONLY way to get remote unlock/immobiliser? ie Does it have inside it the necessary hardware to do this?

I've just opened up my key again, I think I MAY have found the transponder chip. Is it a tiny little glass capsule with no wiring attached? It's underneath a grey rubber plug on the opposite side to the light bulb.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

    Thanks Graeme86,

very helpful. I figured that would be the case and I'm guessing that will probably cost a packet. I'm guessing aftermarkets stuff could be a lot of frigging around too.... back to the old internets for some research!

    Cheers,

    Pete.

Hey Just Crusin, would my T5 have one of those stickers too? Obviously not in the spare wheel well anyway!!!
