Did i mention dont use aftermaket products???? i think not but i did mention that $19 may be a fair tad on the cheap side. Ive been with the high end of the market since i left school so im not used to seeing a $19 thermostat being on any invoice, i would be questioning fitting a $19 thermostat to an old 180 Datsun so go figure. Oh and my bad he used auto pro good luck.

Jmac, sorry if I somehow offended you.
I'm just happy he got it all sorted and it wasn't expensive.

    Hi all,

I was certainly hoping that it was just the thermostat. The thermostat I put in was certainly not a "elcheapo" but was probably less expensive than a genuine VW thermostat. Either way for $19 I can't complain.
Checking the application listing for the thermostat, it fits about 210 models from a Getz to a Commodore GTS 5.7L.....including some Golfs, New Bettles and Passats...I just go by the listing. I guess the more common the fitment the cheaper they get.

As for my mechanic....I did it myself so the total of the job was just the $19 I paid for the thermostat and some G12 to refill it.

I drove it to work today and it functioned as it should.

As I said...sometimes you can be lucky.
