Wheel and Lowering Advice sought
2001 2.0 Bora
Things I am looking at.
Would like to lower 30mm all round. Probably won’t be able to do coilovers just yet though as would like to replace some bushes first. Is cutting the springs for this drop a big no-no?
I have looked at a few pics here and other overseas sites and come to the conclusion that I like the way they have the wheels almost flush with the wheel arch.
I know that the rear is set in 10mm and most of the time I hear them talking of adding a spacer (I am not going to use them)
Any recommendations on wheel/tyre combination that would fit close to flush and maintain the speedo reading.
Would like to use affordable tyres and looking at either 17" or 18" wheels
I just have the stock 15" alloys on there right now and they both wobble when in drive on the hoist so rather than get two that size may as well take the opportunity to upgrade.
And the same old sob story applies. The cheaper the better as going through a divorce/spending heaps on the kids and think that after ten years I may as well spend some money on myself for a change lol, so cheap options are very appealing. Would be doing this just after tax time but would like to know what to look out for in case something comes up I can afford

Yes, this is a very big no no, springs are engineered to have a certain number of coils to support the vehicle mass. yeah, you will lower the car but try explaining when you load the car up with weight and cause an accident due to your suspension failing. Extreme case, but you should NEVER cut any part of a vehicles suspension.
I was trying to sell a set of custom Kings springs along with adjustable dampers, gave up in the end but Kings do a fairly cheap 30mm lower spring, they're progressive in the rear too. Otherwise, take a look at overseas companies, sometimes much cheaper, even with shipping than buying locally.
I'm runnin 17" wheels with Khumo KU 31 on them, pretty damn good tyre for the price!
Stage 2+ Intercooler Carbon Intake Downpipe Swaybar DV+ Remsa.

Good choice in car
30mm drop wont do much, look for 50mm and below.
do not cut the springs in anycase.
keeping low budget you can get some eibach springs that go about 50mm below, have seen these on a 2lt bora and they are great!
otherwise hottuning coilovers (guys on this forum sell them). look for slammed distribution or 'evorobin' and 'lorenz'
You wont get the wheel flush with a 30mm drop. even on 19" wheels.
All comes down to how much money, and if you want 'the look' over a legal and practical car

Ahh sorry, was not clear on what I meant by "flush" I know that the top of the guard and the top of the tyre will have a gap. I was refering to sitting flush with the fenders if looking straight down the body. My stuff up.
I thought that would be the answer about the springs. My only experiance is with old holdens and even then bought new rather than cut. I knew of frinds with smaller cars who cut the spring and had no problems so thought I would ask.
I had heard that lowering past 1 1/4" is detramental to the handling so thought 30mm would be the lowest for me. Its a daily driver and I have to travel a bit to see my kids so do not want anything radical. But by the same token I sold my Type3 Square to get this and hate that I blend in so much now lol. The cars silver but I have even started liking the look of the black bonnet, roof, boot as seen on a few cars over the pond.

yes it can stuff up the handling.
if thats the case get the 30mm drop, and find some 18x8 or 18x8.5 wheels and wrap them in some 225/40 or 235/40s. should look good.
or for a softer ride, 30mm drop, 17x7.5 to 17x8.5 with 225/45 to 235/45 (believe the 235s are cheaper)
