what size wheels will fit on my bora?

i am looking at purchasing a new set of wheels for my bora very soon but i have been getting more and more confused about what size will fit. I have seen a number of gti's here with 18x8's on front and 18x10's on back and as far as i remember these fit without any adjustments. This is what i want for my car but today at the wheel shop the guy said that he spoke to the gmax rep and that he would not sell me anything wider than 18x8 for the back as it will not fit (apparently he has put some on a bora before and he had problems with it)

are the bora rear guards any different to the gti's? Some of the gti's in the image threads look like they have 10" on the back with stock looking guards!! I have always wanted a set of wheels that will fill out those big guards at the back like my fav picture below. (these would have to be at least 9 or 10" at the back, wouldn't they??) I know that offset also plays a big part in this but if the car in the pic can fit them wouldnt the gmax wheels fit even if i needed to use spacers??

GMAX offsets FTL. Ive only seen 1 set of rims with decent offset from GMAX. Everything else was spacered off its nut to make it look like a decent fit. 18x10 fit and ive even seen instances of 18x11 being used without a modified rear fender. Look around, especially in the MKIV section on Vortex. Then get your rims and go and show the knobjockey that knocked you back that you can go wide on a Bora.

I wouldnt go 10 inch. You'll just run into problems and gutters will be your ultimate enemy. Im running 19X8's front and rear with no scrubbing whatsoever but im yet to install the coilovers as of yet. Ill let you know how it rides after the install.
