Gonna have to lift my game to catch up to some of you guys. I Went to VW and ordered a 4mo valence today. Wondering if it would be worth taking the bumper off to fit it or to just lift the car? I'll have to look up a diy. Gonna have to get to the bumper for grill and headlight work soon anyway!! Decisions decisions...

I took mine off from memory. But similar to you, I was installing headlights or something at the same time. So it was off anyway.
When I tried to fit a golf one back in the day I did it on the car, but car was stock height then

You don't need to do either - for the valance it's held in by 2 screws (bottom of wheel arch, back of bumper, one on each side) and clips on the valance itself.
New valances clip in quite easy.
