Bought a set of genuine headlights of gumtree for $20. One smashed lens other side fine. No broken clips, missing pieces at all. Plan was to put the fine headlight in and replace the broken lens with one i would remove from my original headlight. Realised that removing all the smashed lens was one of the hardest jobs EVER. The glue that they stuck these lenses on with is magical! Now have to decide wether to buy new glass lenses and replace the other side while I'm at it so I have brand new looking headlights.....

lights had tint film on them when I got them

After an hour or so of cutting my hands to pieces, I came out with this

Yep! It's painful alright! Might as well do what I did, order the new lenses from VolxTuning, and Joey Mod them before butting the new glass on!

Can you not just cook the glue with a heat gun?

I stuck a pair in the oven and it worked just fine, but the lenses weren't broken. Broken lenses would make it challenging!

Order glass lenses and lamin x them.

basically by the time you melted the glue that holds the lenses in. you've probably burnt the whole headlight to a crisp and most likely burnt your house down.....

No, sorry, only works with certain models of headlight, or should I say, every model EXCEPT our stupid Golf OEM ones in UK and AUS. See below..

Nah, not with original RHD Golf ones mate, it DOES NOT work. You might have a Bora? from what I can tell, the Bora lights seem to have the metal 'clips' on them?? Indicating that they have butyl rubber sealing them (the heat-able stuff), not some kind of superhuman epoxy resin glue &*%#$^&* etc.

The OEM 'Valeo' brand, RHD golf lights that we get here & in the UK, are something altogether different from any other lights! the older they are, the worse they are!! It is a mammoth task!! Aftermarket ones can be much better apparently, and it seems like all LHD counties don't have this problem... like USA, who are the ones posting all the youtube vids, showing how 'easy' it is. Also, new angel eyes LHD/RHD aftermarket lights are fine to heat & remove easy enough I believe..
