There are retrofit kits available on eBay to fit cruise control - only requirement is drive by wire. i.e. electronic throttle (such a confusing name to call it) ... It doesn't look that complicated.

Lots of Aussie mk4s have cruise control, so having drive by wire (ME7 ECU) is not a pre-requisite. Lito's ECU is Cruise control, he gave up the feature as we couldn't find a CH ECU secondhand to flash. More cost effective to buy a different ECU and sell the APR one.

The stalk is to gain cruise control not switching of the ECU, which doesn't work on the ME3.8 ECU

Hi Gavin - I've only ever seen the eBay kits for drive by wire throttles, are there other retrofit kits for non drive by wire as I wouldn't mind adding it ...

    Cheers,

OK, so, there is no way of 'switching' the remap on/off with Lito's old ECU?

Haha, yeah, I suppose. Just figuring it all out I guess.

What about the difficulty of installing the gti CCM (custom control module) to use the remotes? I know that my current CCM has only 1 blue plug, and that the GTI CCM has 2 plugs, the 2nd one has the antenna for the remotes (plus another couple of wires).

Finally installed my solid subframe bushings. Here's to hoping it makes a difference (needs an alignment first but i haven't tried it yet)
    Subframe out

    Old Bushing

    New Bushing

Also finally figured out why one of my high beams was pointing at the ground, Turns out some idiot put the bulb in upside down and it wasn't sitting flush......stupid tool Also figured out that fk did actually think ahead and let me adjust the headlights much the same way the stocks do.

Also the best way to tell a good road trip is your road toll. About a million bugs and 1 bird (stupid suicidal bird)

To be honest (probably sound like a w***ker for this comment) I have never owned a non-GTI. So I have never had to do anything like what you are doing.

I would expect that it can all be retro-fitted it's just time and effort to make it work. Look at the colours of the wires and compare the 2. If you google for some wiring diagrams, I am sure you will be able to find ones for both the original and donor cars.

They are probably easier to switch on, just by enabling with VCDS. After doing the wiring.

I think you'll find the ECUs are different for earlier engine types.

Have you got ETKA? Have a look at ECU part numbers for your engine number and see how many there are.

So finished off my water pump install. Not too bad actually, Bit of a pain that you have to raise the engine like 100mm to get anywhere near close to removing it but all in all fairly straight forward, that is until you snap the old water pump My cars very good at proving the whole light tap with a small hammer turning into a smack with a sledge hammer or press. Stupid DIY said you can remove with your hands, Had to pry bar it and that's why it broke haha. Oh well at least it was the old one. Interesting part was watching about 2lts of coolant come out and then filling with around 5lts :S

    Engine lifted

    Broken Pump

    Very "clean" hole

    New and old

    Installed again

Also went for a drive with the solid subframe bushings. Damn does that make a difference, a lot more responsive than the stocks with no added NVH so win win.
