Went to start my Bora today, nothing, just a click as I turn the key.
It has been sitting so long (more than 6 weeks) that the battery is drained.
I have spent the last 2 months trying to find someone to diagnose (just diagnose, not fix) the noise from the rear end. I suspect it's a problem from something being set up wrong when the diff was refurbished late last year, so I just want someone to diagnose the exact problem before I decide whether it's worth getting it shipped back to Sydney to get the diff fixed under warranty.
I tried to get it in with CVWC but they are so busy I can't get it in for at least a month and it would be a bit of a waste of their time anyway as they would need to farm it out and wouldn't make any money on the job I'm guessing. As usual they were more than happy to advise and do some quick checking. After speaking to CVWC I thought I would try the local VW dealers, I figure if anyone will be able to accurately diagnose it they will, but every dealer I call says "so what km service is it?" then I explain that what I want is to pay for someone to properly diagnose the fault before I decide how to proceed. At this point their eyes glaze over and they say "I'll get someone to call you" and that is the last I ever hear from them.
So after being given the cold shoulder by every VW dealer in the region and spending many hours on the phone over a period of almost 2 months I went back to CVWC and they gave me the details of their diff/transmission guy. I called him and he said "bring it over Monday morning"
Last night I started the car and had a terrible idle, was hesitant under light acceleration.
After the dilemma with the ignition control module earlier in the week I got a sinking feeling.
Today I cleaned the MAF, removed and cleaned the intercooler, was full of oil. Cleaned the throttle body, was coated in oil too. Checked all vac lines for damage.
Engine till stutters and is crap to drive.
I pulled the new control module and tested by following this article AudiWorld Tech Articles
Found it is dead on cylinder 3, same as the old one.
I'm so ****ing over this ****, seriously. Car will be for sale soon, sorry to say but I don't think I can stay in this relationship much longer. I can't go to the Happy Laps tomorrow now either.

Damn man not having much luck with that. Can you take module back and get a replacement?
My mechanic is pretty good with these things. He supplied it and will stand by it, sure he will curse somewhat but should not be a problem. But I will be without a car until he can get replacement part.

Sorry to hear that, just going back a couple of posts, the module if bought from VW is $600 odds retail and $475 odds trade, aftermarket decent ones are around $255- $275 ish, I would be grabbing one of them at least the aftermarket decent ones, i always have these in stock if you have any dramas. you mentioned all up including the plug was around $110 ish thats $500 cheaper than an original VW one?? Be shame to go from the Mk4 , compared to whats out there now they are normally bullet proof. Im sure when she is running right you will change your mind
cheers

I poked a hole in my sump with something hard and sharp !!
first thing my mechanic said was "why do you keep breaking your toys"
and when we had it up on the hoist I noticed the left rear has cut out the inside tread almost down to the case
Probably happened when I was towing a car trailer a couple of weeks ago, it did sit a bit low and splayed....
time to get some coilovers and lift it back up a bit I think, country roads and low just don't go well together
EDIT:
Got the bill, $688!!
Makes the $280 steel sump guards on ECS look like a good investment until I can get some coilovers and lift it up a bit.
