Finally got around to cleaning the throttle body and MAF today, also put a new intake on just half way to a CAI as I wasnt sure how many bends and other bits I needed. After putting it all back together and reconnecting the battery, let her idle her 5 mins but was smooth as then took it for a drive. Sounds great and more throttle response straight up, need to go for a long drive so the ECU can adjust the throttle body and learn about the intake, will also measure the MAF under throttle on the highway.

Hi Coralon quick question how long did it take to do the throttle body clean and is it an easy job???
Iv got tomorrow off so i was thinking of giving it a go
Cheers
I took my time and spent the afternoon on it, probably 3 hours or so but you could do it quicker if you didnt stuff around. The hoses connecting to the throttle body are very fiddly but be patient and take your time, for the back one at the bottom of the TB you can actually take the TB off first and spin it around for easier access. Putting the hoses back on is easier before you reattach the TB.
Now onto what happened today... drove to work, opening the girl up on the highway netted 153.6 g/s on the MAF in third at 5500rpm so appears the clean did it a world of good as before it was topping out at about 130 g/s but the increase could also be due to the ram intake which feels and sounds great. Driving home things were vastly different...
Cruising through the afternoon traffic when suddenly and without warning the engine starts to shake, splutter and generally let me know it was very unhappy. Out comes the phone and the handy torque app, quick scan and yep... cylinder 3 misfire, this happened some 4 weeks ago but fixed itself in a matter of minutes so I nursed the car home, no change.
Waited till it was dark, turned the garage light out and started it up, no arcs or sparks so either a dead coil or fouled plug (I am leaning towards the coil) and after the light was back on discovered a broken vacuum line under the TB that I missed yesterday. Has a lot of wear so it was broken for some time which would explain the odd surges at idle I have noticed for a while now. Jumped onto ECS and ordered new plugs, coils, a temp sensor and clip as it needs doing as well as well as some vacuum hose, oil filter, magnetic drain plug and fliter socket... and thought why not, a new cabin air filter.
Could be away next week so will be a little while before I can finish the service but hopefully this fixes the issue.

I added some smoky goodness to my tail lamps this morning.
Thanks to jpflorez who had them on his black Bora but didn't like them. I agree smoked lights can look a bit much on a black car but I think they really work on my white one. They will look even better when I get a black VW badge.
They don't really look this dark but I was too lazy to move the car into the sun.
