I barely drive the car 10km a day at present, so I'm not *too* worried just yet. The car's in at Heasman now having the alignment done and the whole suspension setup checked for any potential damage.

Called the RTA yesterday, if I can got a photo of the damaged road and show them the damage to the car (quotes to repair, etc), they should cover it.
    Nothing to see here...

i will watch this one with interest mate. my dad-in-law obliterated one of his BBS on a massive pothole, and even with photos and evidence the RTA rule was something along the lines of "as it wasn't a reported pothole, thereby giving us the chance to fix it, the negligence is not with us and we won't be paying for it".

its not the drop in clearance that i think is particularly worrying. its the fact that without a belly pan of some kind the sump is just there ready to be holed. I'd much rather smash a belly pan than a sump. given the right suspension too you should be ok, not the sagging ones i have.

EDIT - sorry, should have multi-quoted these replies.

Yeah, if damaged always best to get a friend etc to write a written letter about it being a pothole, then you submit a claim 1 day later

I hate sydney roads. it indicates cheapness, poor workmanship and just plain ugly.

    on a plus note:
I got the Bilstein PSS's in the front. they ARE better. Much more forgiving, with allowance for shock and spring travel. Much less nervous. And I fail to see how it would be any worse while pushing the car hard.
    Very happy.

Rob, didn't you hate Heasmans? or was that someone else.? THey are a rip off and they aren't that great. Further to that they are always late and have a lack of communication.

I won't be going there again.

The OEM euro skid plate is a good thing, its just really there for my peace of mind. After hearing what happened to r32uberwagen's r32 I wanted something to protect the engine etc. Ive had it on for a couple of months and it has already been scraped a couple of times. On a recent cruise, after going down a large hill (at speed) the car bounced through a large dip. I was glad I had the skid plate then. Better the plate than the sump. I'm currently not that low, and the the skid plate does reduce ground clearance (probably by 5cm or so) quite a bit so be mindful of that if you are planning to go ultra low. The plate has also really firmed up the front end a lot as well. For your daily car, which my r is (at this stage!) I recommend it.

does it resonate engine noise back up? or does it do the opposite, and insulate against resonated noise bouncing back from the road?
