Does anyone know if a fwd Golf/Bora's front struts can be used in a Bora 4mo safely? I need to raise the front and pull out the coilovers to clear my rwc.

Checked ETKA and the struts for all models have the same part numbers, apart from the revision numbers being different.

MKIV Golf R32/Bora 4mo Front strut part no: 1J0413031AE
MKIV FWD Golf/Bora front strut parter number: 1J0413031S

They look the same in the diagrams too. Should be alright?

    Cheers!

No not the same. Will bolt in and it fit fine, but fwd boras/golfs mount their sway bars to the control arms, where as 4mo connect to the strut

    Thanks for that man!

    Damn. >.<

Where the hell am I going to find second hand front bora 4mo struts. (!)

If it was to clear a Vicroads defect, I could drive it with the swaybar disconnected, but they'll pull me up for that on a rwc - esp considering my car needs to be checked over by someone at Vicroads as it's a interstate vehicle.

Could I do a real dodgy and remove the swaybar all together I wonder?

Maybe. They might not pickup on it, such a pita vs just getting some 4mo struts though

While it would be a real pita. Removing the swaybar would be free.

Trying to find a set of 4mo struts is getting difficult. None of my local pick-a-part wreckers would ever buy a 4mo from the salvage auctions (they'd probably be expensive, likely to be a in a frontal crash and don't come up very often) so it leaves me with trying to find a VW dismanteller who love to charge through the nose. >.<

Maybe I can ask a welder mate of mine to weld on a bracket onto the fwd struts?

pending what control arms are in it (there was plenty of variations over the mk4 years) you maybe able to do some custom end links and connect the sway to the control arms.
FWD guys do it when they run AWD sway bars, but all the FWD cars have the allowance for it in the control arms
