Picked up my UNIbrace xB today. Will probably install in next Friday and a mates workshop.

Can't wait to see the improvement!

Hopefully not much as it was a minor without roadworthy (and a whopping fine).
Just lift it up. find some wheels and tyres that clear the suspension and stay inside the guards at height, easy but I think they want tyres exactly to my placard (can't do 215/45/17s with a high load rating for example) so that part will be interesting

    "Victoria: The place to be...defected"

That sucks Dylan! From memory the fine is over $400 :O

With regards to legalities of fitting aftermarket tyres, you don't need to have exactly the ones fitted to your placard.
Provided you don't get lower load rated tyres and a rim that is not more than 1" wider than the ones on the placard, what you can change is the rolling diameter - i.e. the diameter of the wheel and tyre together.

Legally in Victoria, you are only allowed to vary in rolling diameter by 15mm +/- from the biggest/smallest tyre&wheel combo fitted to your car by the manufacturer.

So with the Bora's I beleive the standard tyres are 205/55/R16 so that's a rolling diameter of 632mm. Looking at the wheels fitted to Bora's, the biggest tyre & wheel combo is the 195/65/R15's at 634mm and the smallest 205/60/R15s at 627mm. So you can fit any tyre and wheel combo that has that has a rolling diameter between 612mm and 649mm.
That should give you quite a bit of choice.

If you have 17's, then fit 215/45's or 225/40's - both sizes are fairly cheap because of the common size and they would be the right load rating at 91 or higher.

If you want cheap but quite decent tyres then you can't go past Achillies ATR Sport's. Have heard little else but good about them, esp at their price.

Where do you usually get your tyres from? Ever used Motorsport wheels and tyres? They have really cheap tyres.

Good luck with getting the defect cleared, how long do you have to do so?

Yep you are basically bang on with the regs.
My issue is the notice states something along the lines of 'tyres to be same as placard', normally I'd do as you said and be within the tolerance + at or above load rating, but being they are going to focus on what the defect states I'm a bit worried.
Going to call the cop to confirm (he even said to call if I had issues).
Have a week of driving it, then another 3 weeks before rego is canceled.

I know I could get it passed back home, so might be easiest just to take a day trip back to Bairnsdale :p

From memory you don't need to have the defect checked by the same cop or station so if you know a place that will clear it easier, then by all means, off you go!

You didn't get busted by old mate Pettett did you?

Well that sucks, did you only get done for wheel/tyre size? Did they go around the car thoroughly looking for adapters/spacers and suspension, or just figure that your wheels were too big and ping you for that?
