in the end I got it all sorted and am flushing the cooling system again today before I add in the new G12 red coolant and an oil and filter change.
thanks to Gav(h100vw) for getting the parts for me and for lending a couple of tools to help in the final stages (M8 spline drive fits nicely in a rounded 6mm allen bolt when delivered with a hammer)
    Thanks for that.
My service warning says 600km so I checked my papers and its been 5 years and 85K since last belt change. I thought about doing it myself but now I will be booking it in.

Will add to this , my initial view was something soft had been ingested as there was 2 random fins bent. no pick up points were found on the housing, sump was removed to have any carbon blockages checked, tea bag off the lot and into the corners of the pipe where some miss, feed lines checked, coolant line replaced due to having seen better days. engine internals look really clean and a sure sign it hasn't missed a service, inside the cam cover is nice too. My initial thought was maybe during TIP piper install a silicone piece had been loosesned fitting bypass valve or whatever else is on that pipe, as there is silicone lumps part of the manufacture evident and being it was a used one its been on and off and on and off. Seen nothing else, ingestion 1st thought due to random fin damage. 2nd thought turbo bearing but really expected pick up points. Carlos has a really good point with the PCV actually its in the TIP. Whatever it was its well out of the way. Happy motoring.

Seen a crank pulley cracked by ramming an m8 and thumping it with a hammer. Just saying
