Any 4mo guys changed the valve cover gasket and valve seals on a V6 (BDE)? How complex would this be? Is the bentley manual the best place to start?
spent today taking off the engine mounts, dog bone mount and clutch slave cylinder. good progress i think, tomorrow will be replacing clutch, fly wheel, and water pump/timing belt.

Nice job... Looks like you're elbow deep! Any reason you took the guards off?
It's pretty simple really. Plenty of how to's on the internet such as:
[Mk4 Golf] Help Steering Wheel Airbag Removal Doing My Head In - Interiors - uk-mkivs
and even videos on YouTube detailing the process. (Some show removing the instrument cluster to get access to the rear of the wheel, but you shouldn't need to do that if you have a medium sized flat-blade screwdriver. You will however need a 12mm multi-point bit or similar to undo the wheel itself though.)
P.S. I disconnected the battery prior to removing the airbag just to be on the safe side.
No worries - this YouTube link shows what you're trying to do with the spring clips. (Disregard the fact the guy has trashed his wheel!)
