Finished installing a Forge Big Knob tonight. Way more complicated than I expected, definitely not a bolt-on mod (for my car at least, a 1.6 with an 02K box, afaik it's a bolt-on for most other shift towers). Basically theres a plastic sleeve which sits over and entirely covers the metal shaft inside, which you push down on to put it in reverse.. I had to cut this plastic sleeve much shorter, reinforce/widen it with 15mm and 20mm ID PVC and lots of epoxy putty (used Knead-It so it should definitely be strong enough) and then epoxy the Forge adapter on top. The whole thing then gets screwed in place, and the knob screwed in on top. Nice to finally have it on tho, after lots of improvising and trips to Bunnings..
Pros: Looks great, feels great.
Cons: Price ($150 after shipping), bloody pain to install, pulls the shift boot off a tiny bit every time you put it in 2nd or 4th.

Had a successful weekend working on Laura's insides - managed to rip out her cheap and crappy alarm system without much problem! Woot! The person that installed it never connected it to the immobiliser so it was effectively to lock the doors. It was only connected to the drivers door so if you unlocked the passenger door with a key it would set the alarm off (explains why putting the key in the ignition never helped when I first set the alarm off).
The wiring in this car was quite atrocious though :/
Nothing was soldered, a spaghetti array of cables everywhere, domestic electricians wiring & joiners was used. I wasn't happy to see that someone's way to send 12v's of power down a wire was to shove some exposed cable behind the other wires on a harness and it was taped in place. If the tape had come loose that wire could've easily shortcircutted. Butcher work. This is the same wire it seems that was used to power a subwoofer as well >.>
Took off the panel under the cluster and this fell out:
Twist and tape -_-
****ty wiring removed. Collection includes burnt out rca's, crappy excuse for an alarm system, and domestic wiring. Goodbye. You won't be missed.
