What have you done to your mk4 (golf/bora) today?

still got the erratic idle when stationary at lights etc, took air intake pipe off to look at Throttle Body and its clean as a whistle, so will be checking the PCV pipe when i can. Any suggestions how to attack this?

Magna hey!!! They are a pain. you'd be surprised with Vw gearboxes there much easier to take out. You can remove the front of most Audi and Vw but no need to when removing the gearbox. By the way my clutch pedal was the cause of my problem. Cheers.

Good to hear the VDub boxes are easier. Small engines have small gearboxes which is handy. My fagna's box was almost 40kgs and I needed a hoist to remove it (ended up using a manual 4x4 winch attached to my garage roof). In contrast, my mate changed his clutch in his lancer by his own with no lifting tools because the gearbox barely weighted 15kgs.

My car being a awd, I suspect removing the gearbox would be quite a pain. I'd not only need to disconnect the front driveshafts, but also the tailshaft and then try and maneuver out the box with the transfer case attached. Glad the previous owner did it before me!

Do the bora's also have removable front ends? Or do they have that 'service position' old Audi

4wd a little harder. If you remove the subframe it allows heaps of access to the gear box it's easier to maneuver the transfer case during install. You can remove your front end as well but you will lose coolant and will have to re-gas the ac system.

The ac system degassing and regassing would be the expensive part. Coolant is barely $50 a bottle, but the AC gassing needs to be done by a pro. Pretty sure if you release that gas into the air it's a $10,000 fine. And then the receiver/drier bottle becomes useless and needs to be replaced plus the system regassed.

Anyway, time to transfer my audio system into my bora. Exxxcited!

Remove bumper. Swap 4 bolts for 2 very long bolts. Pull the front bar out. Radiatior, lights etc all stay connected. There is a bit of slack on the AC lines to accomodate the movement.

Well Part 1/5 of my audio install is done. Would've had more done if I did 'discover' some great "treasures" awaiting for me inside the boot.

At least I got the amps mounted under the parcel shelf. They still need power & rca's. The headunit needs to be changed (some ****ty outdated Sony one in there currently). Doors need to be deadened and the speakers installed to replace current faulty ones. Sub box need to be fabricated and installed. Fun times ahead!

Out of the 5 hours I allocated to installing the system, 2 -3 of it was spent on fixing up a terribly installed reverse parking system. Wires where everywhere - no cable management, power wire was just pushed into the factory harness (no safe & permanent attachment) and the control unit was just lying around.
Someone smart cut the window brake light wire (disposed of the harness) to wire in some new wires that went up the boot hinge to no where - so effectively they did nothing and I have no 3rd brake light.
Also discovered that the factory CD stacker was removed and the wires cut for no apparent reason - left exposed of course. And I found some dodgy burnt rca's and three sets of 12ga red, black & white wires that ran down the side of the car and soldered to some wires in the dash that I'm yet to work out do what function.

Ohh, did I forget to mention that someone seemed to have taken to the interior trims with a claw axe ? All the areas of the dash plastics where they mount to the main dash are broken off. The whole thing is held on by the remaining undamaged fingers on the plastics.
Add to this that the glove box plastic snapped off the first time I tried to open it and when I finally did open the glove box it seems the locking mechanism on one side has snapped off prior.

So much for a once 60k car. Been a less than fun public holiday for me.

Anyone know when I can buy some Bora interior pieces in Melbourne? My car has the rare tan inteiror so finding bits is going to be even more fun! I think I'm going to have to get standard grey ones and respray them with VHT vinyl dye.

Picked up some pov pack tail lights for the bora. Going to do some super subtle changes to them though

Got a wheel alignment done.

Holy smokes.

8.2mm total toe, 6.2 mm on the left alone! Have only driven it for about 3 k's since picking it up but it already feels more 'sure footed' thats for sure.

dylan8, what lights and from where? i want to get some uber cheapies to build some LED arrays in to.
