Damn clutch pedal went on me this morning. 2nd gear all the way to work!!!
The one thing I never thought of changing earlier,
I suppose 9 years is a good run for a part.

    Damn >.<

Sounds like you need to learn how to rev-match

If you can learn how to do that, then you only need the clutch to start off the line. The way to do that when you have no access to the clutch is to use the starter motor to kick the clutch&flywheel and get you off the line.

Maybe do some quick research at work so you drive the bastard home.

Knew that. Luckily enough that's the only way to get her going. Thats a good tip for anyone else who gets in that situation you can start them in 2nd and drive them away.

9 years is a good effort. Mine is still on the original so I'm wondering just how much longer it's got.

Do you have a fwd or awd golf?

Any clutch change is a pain in the ass, but fwd/awd in small cars even more so.

I had to remove the gearbox three times in my old car (remove auto, install manual and install new manual after I screwed up the first manual box) and being a fwd 3.5L V6 made for a very frustrating install. Millimeters of space to work with and it would only go in one way.

Do mk4 veedubs like audi's have a "service position" to be able to gain more space?

Magna hey!!! They are a pain. you'd be surprised with Vw gearboxes there much easier to take out. You can remove the front of most Audi and Vw but no need to when removing the gearbox. By the way my clutch pedal was the cause of my problem. Cheers.
