    Part isn't Genuine...

OK - I am pretty sure after 4 replies from VW guys in the UK that the part isn't genuine at all...

So, back to the Group buy idea?

And Manaz...? Do you have any way of sweetening our deal?

    Couldn't we find someone cheaper?

I'll try some of the UK dealers - I have got parts from them before - they usually have cheap shipping.

Unless it's just an American Jetta part...? Would the LHD be an issue?

I want the Amrest Delete too...

It's meant to be a US only part, from/for the US Jetta, so maybe UK would have no idea of it?

Car has been overheating a bit lately. When driving at 100km/h, the temperature gauge would go from 90degC (mid) to 130degC in ~30 seconds of driving. Then when I'd stop (pull over/stop at traffic lights), it'd go back down to 90degC in ~40 seconds or so.

Had the thermostat and temperature sender replaced by my mechanic, no joy. Took it to Elite Euro in Perth today for a diagnostic.
Turns out the water pump is gone, and all oil/coolant hoses/valves are fried because of this. Also, it's spitting oil/coolant all over the engine while I drive. It needs a new thermostat housing, and also needs complete top front strut assemblies on both sides. Not a happy camper, gonna be an expensive couple of months ahead

Edit: Just got the quote back:
    Waterpump-------------------- $109
    New coolant------------------- $45
    Labour------------------------- $350

    Thermostat Housing----------- $203
    Radiator cap------------------- $15
    Sealing plug------------------- $20
    Labour------------------------- $120

    Inlet hose---------------------- $115
    Breather pipe------------------ $118
    Dipstick tube------------------ $15
    Labour------------------------- $150

    Top mount strut kit----------- $75
    Lower control arm bush------ $70
    Wheel alignment-------------- $65
    Labour------------------------- $350

    Total: (added GST) ~$2000.

I can confirm that the part number you've quoted is definitely NOT genuine - it doesn't fit the VAG part number standard.

I can help with ECS purchases, amongst other things. I may even be convinced to run another GB (I've got a few things I probably need to get myself).

My 4yo has managed to pull the trim from around the right rear-door (attached to the rubber seal on the chassis around the door opening) to pieces, so I need to find a new one of those now. And probably the left side too, given I get water building up on the door sill (and apparently that's a seal issue)...

I'm up for any group buy for the centre console.

If we use ECS i need some longer/adjustable control arm/front sway bar links as well: low car + bumpy road = rubbing
