Check for a green socket under your seats - will see if I can get a pic of it for you.

Most people have never had to think about it, and they are putting so much more power through the 1.8T ones than the little 1.6L's, without failure too. They'd HAVE to be stronger than the 1.6L ones wouldn't they? Otherwise every 2nd 1.8T modder would be throwing gearbox rivets right?

My gearbox code appears to be: EVS

EVS is just a variation of the 5-speed box. Mine has the same code, I remember from when it had to be replaced...

    Dylan, this is the connector:

You won't have the plug with the purple tab and the brown, black/white, black/yellow wires coming out of it, but if you have the green socket that's in the white cradle with the wiring running to it from the underside of the seat (in a piece of tubular black plastic - wiring tube more visible in the top pic) you should be good to go.

You've got me there. Not sure - best bet is to check for the plug I guess.

hmmm cant see a green socket. might rip the seat out tomorrow and have a proper look.
are your seats leather? or did you add the heating coils?

Mine are leather, so you might be right about the leather coming with them.

It didn't look that tricky to retrofit the elements to standard GTI seats though going by that earlier thread I posted the link to. More fiddly and time-consuming than anything.

    Hey Geoff,

Why did it have to be replaced? What did you replace it with?

cheers rolfgolf, there is plenty of good info on uk mk4s and vortex on doing a retrofit when you have no wiring or plugs with the seats.
An yeah, the are guys on eBay who sell these, will have to compare a few prices.

No worries Stan. Uk mk4s is my go to website as most of the picture links are still current - unlike vortex.

Would be a good time to tackle it I'd think. The wiring side is pretty straight forward with the supplied instructions.
