I'm guessing you had the bubble in the mirror problem, how much did the replacement cost and how difficult was the swap?

It's not completely out of the question ...

But the first tank I put through with the new 1.8T only got me just under ~300km's before the fuel light came on! That is basically driving around town, driving to work each day, a trip to campbelltown & back, then bam! fuel light on!

The last engine was only a tad better, probably getting about 330km's before the light came on from doing the same trips.. I only got about 35km's after the light came on before it totally ran out too!.. Found that out the hard way! (middle of the day in Alexandria).

So.... MAF sensor? O2 sensor? Also, I'm using BP Ultimate 98 if that helps diagnose.. I Now have a vagcom cable (only vagcom lite at the moment) and can check things there if you tell me what to look for...

PS - Moderators & Gurus.. Where is the best section to start my build thread? .. Don't want to put it in the wrong spot..

You can do your build thread in MK4 forum.

300 on a tank is pretty crap, I get over 700 in my S3, that's nearly all highway though.

The fuel will have no influence on the mileage. Certainly not knocking 100 or more ks off a tank.

Log me blocks 002 006 013 with your lead and email me. optimumcode at gmail dot com This is airflow through the MAF.

Do a run from 1500 revs to 5000 in 3rd if you can, then just drive around for a couple of minutes.

Unfortunately you can't see lambda with the ME3.8 ECU.

Open VCDS, select ECU , measuring blocks, type 002 in the top box hit enter, 006 enter 013 enter. select log, give it a name and start IIRC. Done close when you are finished.

You should still be able to see the lambda control and learnt values via basic settings, so basic settings with engine at running temp, 04 for basic settings and punch in 030, and control in 032 in basic settings, the Charcoal filter valve will be turned off by the ECU at the same time of the test. let us know what the learnt values are and we can determine whats at fault, rememeber the lambda probe gets influenced by a heap of stuff , one of the old favorites being air leaks, your coolant temp sensor could be duff and your thermostat coud be lying open keeing he engine cool and therefore the injection pulse width longer

Yep good old bubble in the mirror problem. I found one $70 delivered from the UK.. The cheapest I've seen on eBay in a while so I jumped on it. The replacement took just a few minutes and I followed a write up on Vortex..

The past few months I used one of those clip on wide view mirrors I bought for $5 from the Philippines. Wasn't too bad now that I think of it.

    Hi Guys,
I managed to do a couple of logs using Gav's process, but when I tried Jimmy's method, as soon as I go to section '04', it tells me that it has to be a registered version of VCDS Lite. I am emailing the logs to Gav right now, while waiting for a scan to finish, scanning all the useable addresses with my setup..

Installed my Dieselgeek Short Shifter yesterday arvo. Its awesome... but ... I need to either; a) get used to living without 1st and reverse, or b) re-adjust the side-to-side. Havent decided yet. Racecars don't have reverse, maybe its a new direction for my car!
