I took out the Oxygen sensor to give it a clean. After the ignition module failed and the car ran on 3 cylinder for a while the idle now goes a bit funny and I can't get below 8.4l/100km highway driving. Gavin scanned the car a few weeks back and we saw it hunting for idle, we decided the O2 sensor was probably flogged from all then un-burned fuel.
When ever I get out of the car after a drive I can smell the fuel in the exhaust.
So rather than buying a new one straight up I thought I'd give it a clean with some TB cleaner.

Here is the sensor before a good soaking.

I've got no idea if this is normal or not.
    MK4 GTI - Sold
    MK5 Jetta Turbo - Sold
    MK5 Jetta 2.Slow - Until it dies.

If it doesn't run better, I have one from my A3 which should be ok. Not convinced any fluid would be good for cleaning.

I would read it like a sparkplug and say it's been running lean, however, unless you have been giving it a good bootful, it would be running in closed loop.

    Gavin

Is that the A3 seats? Or did you get some others Lachlan?

You have to check that your seats have the green plugs on the underside as that indicates the heating elements are in place in the seats to begin with and is what the loom connectors plug into - can post up some pics of plugs etc. if people are interested. (You can also buy a complete kit to add heating elements to standard seats, but that involves removing covers) I was fortunate that the GTI seats I bought last year had the green connectors in place so it was just a matter of grabbing the loom and the switches.

This is what the loom looks like:

That 02 sensor looks shot, cleaning wont fix it, looks like it might not be heating correctly or maybe something else, not lean though. I would be fitting a new one for sure will make a difference. Best way to check it is with a scope, its way quicker than any scanner and will pick up on a lazy 02 sensor even without error codes. Should be a service item at 100ks i reckon, i see Skoda have it in their service schedule at 100ks, awesome work Skoda ( Simply Clever!!)

Wondered if you'd spot the difference Gavin Got a good deal on a GTI interior with door cards, armrest and front and rear seats last year so grabbed them while I could.

I have a spare parts emporium going at the moment with my old interior, A3 seats and various other bits and bobs lying around. My re-sprayed and modded later style centre-console, glovebox, and various trim pieces are almost ready to go in too, though didn't anticipate we'd see as much rain so it's held my plans up a bit.

Also have front and rear swaybars to go on and Koni shocks with some H&R springs, plus two sets of wheels to re-furbish.

The problem is I keep adding to my to do list ...
