Flickr have changed the way they link to photos recently and it doesn't appear to work like it used to.

I just link to the static address of the photo and this seems to work. In Flickr choose Actions then View all sizes. Now click on the link for the size you want to show in the post (I usually choose the Medium 640 size). Now I use Chrome so this may be different for other browsers but with Chrome you just right click on this photo and choose Copy image URL then you can paste that URL into the forum post.

When you do this the photo will appear like so....

Hey mate, mine are replicas too. I don't have any pics of it at stock height with them on as I had already lowered it before getting the wheels. But I'll try and find some flat ground and tAke some photos this arvo. In my opinion I'd wait until after you've lowered it to get 18s, the look at bit silly at standard height, they really highlight the massive wheel arch gap.

gave here a bath with some new shampoo.
New stubby antenna and gasket can be seen, thanks Dubaddiction.

Really needs some lows. Oh brought a pair of rocky mount bike carries, now just need that OEM roof basket.

Is there anywhere that documents which comfort module's can use the factory/OEM/VW remotes? American sites seem to say that all MK4 ones can be programmed with remotes, even if they only came with "2 standard keys".

Here's the new VW remote I bought, I'm not bothering about the flip key with immobiliser chip until I get this part working first..

My first attempt at uploading a photo, hope it works ok...
    UPDATE:
    OK, big change in plans,
This afternoon after work, I took apart the lower dash to get to the 'comfort control module'. From what I've read & seen (guides on extending remote range), there are 2 plugs going into the comfort module, 1 main blue one, and a second beige/black one, containing a wire with clear coating - the antenna for OEM remotes. I wanted to see if I could see the 'antenna wire' coming out of the beige/black plug in my exact car. This would at least tell me (a very good indication) if the comfort module was equipped to receive signals from a remote.

Here is what they look like:

And... this is what mine looked like:

Only the blue plug, no beige or black plug at ALL!!!! So much for the antenna wire!! There wasn't even the whole plug it resides on!
This led me to conclude that there ARE comfort modules out there that that are not at all equipped to work with remotes and keyless entry! ...OEM of course that is.

So... now my search was over, what the hell to do with the deflating outcome!?!?!

I decided to install the black wire alarm/immobiliser (I had from a previous car & had already ordered the new wiring loom) as my add-on keyless entry (no pictures, obviously). A few hours later, all done, same night. Works like a charm!

If I get around to it, I might get the windows up/down going too. I can get them up, but not sure if 'holding negative' on that wire constantly is bad? It'd be like constantly holding the key on 'lock' on the door, long after the windows have closed.

Now that's done, I can focus on the wheels! Busy night, I'm off to bed!

    Hey mate,

So did you manage to get the genuine VW remote working or an aftermarket one? I'm confused. If not, what kit did you use!

Cool VW Remotes Didn't Work, So I Just Installed a New Alarm / Immobiliser!

    Hey mate,
So did you manage to get the genuine VW remote working or an aftermarket one? I'm confused. If not, what kit did you use!
    Cam.
    Hey Cam,
    So, what happened was:

    1. The car had a comfort control module that DID NOT support OEM Remotes, therefore, I can NOT use my Genuine OEM VW Remote in my car at all.

    2. I cannot use the VW remote, or any other remote, to work with the factory VW equipment in my car. There is nothing in my car for it to communicate with (OEM or aftermarket), It can only communicate with specific VAG equipment (which it doesn't have anyway).

    3. I have now installed a completely seperate alarm/immobiliser system in my car, with their own remotes, which controls the existing factory equipment in my car.

    4. So... now the new remotes (of the new alarm/immobiliser system), control the car as if you are manually locking the driver's door with the key (all the doors lock, deadlock, red light at driver's lock flashes, lights go off, etc.), as well as any additional features that the new alarm/immobiliser provides (indicators flash, immobilise more points, siren beeps, etc).

The brand of alarm/immobiliser I have used is: Dynamco: Cyclops, Dynamco - Innovative Vehicle Solutions. After being a foreman in a few workshops for Strathfield Car Radios some years ago, and installing possibly hundreds of these things between myself and my workers, I can't recommend these products highly enough! They are Australian designed & made, VERY well made, simple, yet tough as! The module I have just put in my golf is from my last car, where I had it installed for the last 5+ years without skipping a beat! I originally got it circa 2001, that means it's over 10 years old, and still works fine!! Show me any other aftermarket alarm that has lasted over 10 years bouncing around inside a car and still going strong. Support is great too, they still sell new remotes that are completely compatible with my older box. I just ordered a new wiring loom & installed it like it was a new unit, no problems!!

For me it's not what's been done it is when it will get done, have some major changes coming up but it all needs time, car will be off the road next week until after Christmas maybe new years. Pics on before and after will be posted during all work done for anyone to learn, No engine work just cosmetic changes I'm itching to get it started...
