Finally someone who will tell the full story about SMF. So often only the pros of mods are discussed.

pretty sure the idle chatter is very well known, there's a bit on vortex i think.
It's particularly bad with the air con on.
Funnily enough, if you depress the clutch it goes quieter.
I think that is because it is the motor making the gearbox vibrate.
But with the air con off, it's not very noticeable, though still not the nicest sound, but neither is the motor in general.
I've been thinking of an exhaust upgrade to help disguise the chatter!
Actually Yevvy, you saying its louder with the windows up?
Mine is louder with the windows down because then i can hear it from outside of the car, whereas sounds like you can hear it from inside the car?
Maybe you've got some hard engine mounts that are transfering the sound through the whole cabin?
after a couple of days driving i noticed that sometimes the chatter disappears. with a clutch in the chatter is completely eliminated. maybe when the clutch will completely brake in, it will quieten down a little, who knows.
mcdub, no my mounts are stock. its just when my windows are down you can hear the wind, birds, cars...babies so you can't hear the chatter as much. but when you roll them up, the outstanding vw insulation just amplifies the chatter coming from the firewall. but i can live with it, and hopefully it won't put off too many buyers :)
I take it this is a LFW setup?
Did the DIY low speed fan fix on my Bora, all up around $80 for parts and a couple of hours of my time. :)

Just finished cleaning up the last 2 or my 17's, YAY Finally.
They look a 1000 times better now, should really sparkle on the car now.
Now time to take off the 19's and put the 17's back on ready to sell it.
tried installing a smaller capacitor on my new south spectrum boost guage, once again, just like the capacitor supplied, it stops the dimmer from working so you're stuck with the bright dash lights. so removed it and am now back to just the red needle illuminating on the guage with no backlight.
and i broke two of the damn clips taking the dash off, but was able to glue one back on with some 2 part expoxy...
so not a very productive day.
Pancake pipe fitted! I know there is some debate on the innerwebs as to if it's worth the bother. The car def seems to pick up better on my quick test run. Will see longer term.
Just waiting on my downpipe coming and I might need to remap :-D
Last week I blew the right rear parker globe. While taking the cluster apart (damn it's fiddly!) managed to short it out across the back of the boot light in the carpet liner & killed all the interior lights haha :D Remote lock and windows went a bit weird too. Quick trip to the servo with a mate for a fuse and a new globe the day after. Then the left one cut out a few days later but just a loose connection that time!
Thrashed the hell out of it at a skid pan. Something was not right, found my front tyres were on backward. The fool that did wheel alignment did not check rotation arrow. Tyres work a lot better the correct way around.
