Beetle steelies (16 inch) are popular in the states, or you can get aftermarkret 17 inch ones like these:

I don't completely understand the look either... maybe they are back up or "beater" wheels to have on the car while the $$$ BBS three-piece jewellery hides under the bed.

Whats the tape exactly... Looks like what my boss uses to pin drawings down on his drawing board, is like a masking tape?

I think they're trying to hark back the old Peugeot 205 Rallye type look. Since most modern alloys etc are all multi spoke designs it's hard to get that kind of old skool rally car look without using steel rims. That's my thoughts on what they look like anyway.

Is it about the look of the steelies, or what widened wheels can achieve? I would go them for the options, eg whatever width you like. smaller diameter wheels with width, without the price tag of expensive wheels and so on, being individual.

Fitted vented wheel arch liner. Really happy with it. (Thanks to Grant for organising this and to Marshall for shipping) Thoroughly cleaned wheel arches. Also put back VW rear badge on. Then washed car.
