All of the big companies run at least three types:

    RON91 (regular unleaded, ULP)
    RON95/96 (premium unleaded, PULP)
    RON98 (BP Ultimate98, Shell V-Power, Mobil 8000, Caltex Vortex98, etc).

Most of them are also running an E10 fuel as well these days (they have to by law in NSW).

The smaller operators tend to have a mix (some may not carry an RON98 product). E10 seems popular with smaller operators as people who go to those servos tend to shop based on price (I personally don't trust the quality of their fuels after having heard too many bad stories).

gravey, are you driving a v5 or v6, i guess engine size make a little difference, i've got a v6 and now that the i fixt the air MAF i will keep on eye on my fuel consumtion. but i will give the BP a go. according to your info, BP sounds convincing, and worth a shot. i will fill up this week and i'll keep on eye on it.

Just be aware that to get meaningful information, you'll need to run a number of tanks to average the usage out.

Wow some of you guys must drive with a very heavy right foot!

My GTI (chipped and 3" exhaust) is getting around 8.9-9 L / 100 km on a 'mixed' cycle to and from work which has some highway (West Gate FWY) and some stop-start bits. Using Shell V-Power only because the servos are convenient for me.

VW dropped the V6 at least partly because they're known to be a bit thirsty.

Turbo engines tend to be quite efficient, even when you're up them a bit, and particularly chipped ones as they don't run as rich as stock (this is one way they get a bit more power out of an engine).

I know v6 is thirsty on fuel but if you enjoy the drive and the power some times you just dont care. lol

You're absolutely spot on there. And again, when getting up it, the increase isn't that much anyway, so the temptation's always there. Just need to be sensible...

No chip for me. I may have a Custom-Code flash done to it at some stage, but unless I go for aftermarket forced induction, there's not a lot more to gain in fiddling with the V6 unless I start spending serious coin.

yep that's right - don't take my results as gospel, I've done a lot more k's on the BP and as I said I did some hard driving on V-Power. Having said that I've done some hard driving on BP too and it seems to use less than the other fuels when you drive it hard
