Hi guys,
Has anyone got a strut spreader tool I can borrow? I can assure you the tool will be returned in the same condition as it is received. I am in desperate need of one as I am currently installing coilovers on a V5 Bora with the help of a mate.
Why do you need this magical tool? Because the strut mount is extremely tight, and the only way to get it to the point where you can remove the strut is by spreading it (i.e. prying) apart using the tool. The tool is basically a 7mm Allen wrench bit that's been ground down to be more oval shaped. You pop it in the gap in the strut mount, twist, and BAM ... out comes the strut.
Thanks.

You can spread it using a large cold chisel and hammer. Not ideal, but it'll get you out of trouble.

i was in pain trying to spread it all day, finally i used a bolt that i grinded down to a square and it worked perfectly
Hmmm pity your so far from Brisbane, I used a borrowed Strut Spreader this morning. Great tool but as others have said there are DIY options.
Thanks Gav for lending me to strut spreader!
Cheers Al
Thank you all for the assistance in your replies.
Well, I managed to get all 3 done besides the drivers side front which is being a headache for a mate and I. I was told to loosen the 21mm bolts holding the sub frame for more leverage as there is still about 2mm of the strut at the bottom stuck.
Yes driver's side it a pain. Compress the spring a bit on drivers side helps get it out.
Now that you have loosened those sub frame bolts you need new ones, they are single use stretch bolts.
Glad to hear you got it sorted.
