Wheel experts - S.O.S pls!
I wantz Miro Type111's. Looks absolutely amazing on MKIV's imho. *Drool* )
For 18" 5x100's, they come in 8.5" w/+35 offset, and 9.5" w/+40 offset.
I got defected for wheels sticking out past the guards, so I'm wondering if a 9.5" wheel with ET40 offset will tuck under the rear guards?
Everyone seems to use spacers - is this to clear the suspension or to poke out further? Not a fan of spacers for legality and insurance purposes.
Laura the bora 4mo is lowered so I'll probably need to do some tyre stretching.
Do like a bit of stretch but nothing too excessive - i.e. 225/40 on a 9.5" rim kind of stretch. Recommendations?
Fifteen52 can ship a set of these for $900US. Cheap as! If they fit, I'm hitting the confirm order button. Just got to decide whether I choose matt black or hyper silver. Hmm.
Pls help! Spanx!

depends how low, what camber settings.
the 9.5et40 should be fine though. Trickysimon has this on his 4mo bora with full size 265 rubber and it sits basically in line with the guards even though he has his suspension wound a fair way up.
a 215/40 and 225/40 or 225/40 and 235/40 combo should work nicely. legality's are out the window regardless as you are running 9.5s, so wouldn't stress if you have spacers or not.
Thanks for the reply mate!
I seen trickysimons post and the 9.5" et40s tucked nicely flush with guards with is exactly what I'm (and the horrid vicpol) is after. My car is lower than Simons and I plan to drop it more than it is currently (looks mint when these wheels tuck under). I'm wondering if there is a chance these wheels could smash against the suspension?
I'll probably end up doing a 235/40 and 225/45 combo to keep the rolling diameter the same. Still a decent amount of stretch though. Might look at maybe 245mm wide tyre. 265mm would be the safest but I'm not sold on tyre stretching being as bad as everyone suggests.
I did forget that im only legally allowed in Vic to get 1" wider wheels than the biggest one fitted to the Boras. From memory the 17s were 7.5" wide so 8.5" would legally be the widest I could go. I'm more concerned about safety of spacers than anything. Plenty of horror stories and the idea of moving the centre of mass on the bearing & diff doesn't enthrall me either.
Anyway, thanks for the help. Probably will go ahead and order the pretty Miro 111s and wait another 30 days before I can sell of my keskin kt4s here on vww.
If I wanted 8.5s to push out to the edge of the guards, what kind of offset would they need to have et45 -et50 ?

they hit on his external V3 damping canister from memory, but most coils dont have these.
dont go a 225/45/18, miles to big.
the 225/40 and 235/40 combo should be close to same rolling diameters on the staggered width wheels.
from memory a 235/40 on a 9.5 in most brands wont even be regarded as stretch if it meets their max width requirements.
spacers have a bad name purely from people using them incorrectly.
adding a 5mm spacer is no different from getting the wheels as a et35 instead of a et40. in regards to moving centre of mass etc
again depends on height.
but you would want to go the other way, 8.5et25 will sit closer out towards/past the guards then say a 8.5et35, and 8.5et45 would sit further in towards your suspension
Thanks again mate for your help mate - you're a legend!

My coil looks pretty stock standard - nothing too spesh. "Tracer" branded - which are apparently made by KW. So hopefully then should be no fouling on the internal suspension components.
I was only planning to go for a 225/45 & 235/40 combo to ensure the similar rolling diameter for the front and back wheels. I'm not sure a staggered setup is best for the driveline. A few mechanics have told me to be careful. However whether I do 225/40 or 225/45, they are both 15 +/- bigger/smaller than the 235/40mm tyre.
Looking at some pics, it seems the 235/40's are a nice amount of stretch for these wheels. Hopefully its still reasonably safe.
Thanks again for your help Dylan!!
Now to order them wheels before xmas (present to myself - done!)
On a side note, being in my sort of area, have you had much trouble from the police with mildy stretched wheels ? Or have you never done "mildy stretched" ?

Dylan is correct. They rub on my KW V3 canisters. Have spaced the shock inwards, but may even need to put 5mm-10mm spacers on the back as well.
225/40 and 235/40 would be the go for you.
nar 225/45/18 and 235/40/18 is nothing alike and would prob do damage let alone look stupid. The setup i said before will be as good as it gets unless you want to run say a 225/40/18 + 255/35/18
I had i had 452s which were good, allowed me to put a 215/35 on a 8.5", check out the new 3 series bmw, they run similar sizes from factory.
I daily drove my 8.5/9s teledials with a 215/40 and 225/40s for a long time, never had a cop comment on any part of that setup.
Thanks guys!
225/40 & 235/40 is a go! I think it's just the perfect amount of stretch to be on the safer side and should look subtle enough. 255/35 would practically be no stretch at all. The 225 & 235 should not set off too many alarms with the bacon. Hopefully if I get pulled up the piggy will be a decent fella and overlook it.
I've already got 2x Goodyear eagle f1s in 235/40r18s so I just need to get front 225/40s.
Miro111s here we come
Matt black or hyper silver?
Any last thoughts/concerns on the miro type 111 in 18x8.5 with 225/40 and 18x9.5 with 235/40 ? Speak now or forever hold your peace!
