I do understand offsets to a degree, but not sure how they apply on the 4mos with clearance. The wheels I want (Miro Type111) only come in 18x8.5" ET35 & 18x9.5" ET40 so I assumed I'd need the 9.5" for the back due to the extra clearance. I've not found many Bora 4mos on the internet with such a setup because most seem to be about "stance" than anything else.

Front would be better with a small spacer and maybe a little bit higher. Could do with a wider tyre as well imho.

Does anyone know if the MKIV R32 has similar rear suspension setup to the Bora 4mo's?

This is a R32 with a 18x9.5" Miro 111 wheel and a 15mm spacer.

R32 is the same so of clearances as a 4mo bora.

no point looking at other cars unless you know the suspension setup and how low they are.
most of the above will be lower, so geometry has changed so much it becomes irrelevant.

put your other wheels back on, use a offset calculator and a ruler and should be able to easily work out if itll work.
Simons can fit the 9.5et40 due to his car being a bit higher (not sure where yours is at) and his control arms fix any camber, there for giving more room on the inside of the wheel.

check some of the other 4mo guys on here. thestu and kapowww arent running adjustable control arms from memory which will make it similar to yours depending on height

This guy has used a 18x9.5" wheel on the back with an offset +35. A 5mm spacer should help me achieve that?
I'm guessing being a non-4wd Golf the back end probably has more space than a Bora 4mo?

the rear track on a 4mo is about 10mm less each side then a FWD car.
9.5et35 looks about right on the rear of that.

Confused about law in nsw, you can fit only 1 inch bigger than standard?

yep. 17x7et38 toccatas (spelling?), which were a almost flat faced 5 spoke and bora sports which were 17x7.5et38 if i recall correctly.
Both with 225/45/17s
Not sure why the sport doesnt get a mention on the placard.
Mine is different again to yours as it lists at 15" option. Not sure if 4mos list the spacesaver

You sure its only 1"? In vic we can go 2" bigger diameter then standard, and 25mm wider (1")

Just remember the law is regarding "rolling diameter" - I.e the diameter of the wheel AND tyre together. You are allowed to adjust the tyre size and wheel size as long as the rolling diameter of them together are not 15mm greater than the biggest wheel&tyre combo fitted to that model of car or 15mm smaller than the smallest combo fitted to the car.
Wheel width wise you're only allowed to go 1" wider than the widdest factory wheel fitted to the model of car. For the Bora the widdest is 7.5" so you can legally git 8.5" wheels.

Thanks for the quick reply boys so that means that the biggest wheel tyre combo I can go to is 17inch + 45mm ( +15) and 1 inch wider ?

You need to work out the rolling diameter first.
Its basically the diameter of the wheel plus 2x the height of the sidewalls. All can be worked out based of the tyre size. 225mm is the width of the tyre in mms, 45 is a percentage of the tread width (i.e.45% of 225mm) and r17 is radial 17" wheel.

So for a 225/45r17 tyre, the rolling diameter is 2(0.45(225))+(17x25) = 634mm. Therefore, if that is the biggest wheel&tyre combo (rolling diameter that is) then you can fit any size rim and tyre that together is no more than 659mms in diameter. (Provided the tyre meets the cars min load rating).
This works the same for fitting smaller diameter wheels & tyres, however generally manufacturers don't vary the diameter much.

Anyone ever seen a 215/45r18 tyre on a 18x8.5" rim?

Trying to find a picture but coming up dry.

Ideally would like to stretch a 215/40 but the load rating of 89Y is too low for my car. Needs to be 91 min. 215/45r18's are 93W and almost smack on the same rolling diameter as factory.

wont find someone on a mk4 doing it as its too big. Better just to go a 225/40/18 if load rating is a worry
