Got a new MAF from dealer for $240 exchange. It will be installed later today so fingers crossed that fixes all her woes. Will post tom with hopefully an on-road car.

I hope your wrong mate at least partially otherwise just shelled out more $ for something more i didnt need and will still be scratching my head over

Car just doesnt seem to be getting enough fuel now, fuel pressure good and injectors ok. This morning it starts up and just splutters and dies due to lack of revs.

Ok final update. It was indeed the MAF. They chucked the new one on and she is running well again. Huge sigh of relief.

Thanks all for your replies from a happy again dubber

See above. $240 from Barloworld at Mascot.

Lucky for me they shipped it all the way to Parra as local dealers couldnt get one in till tom.

Worked out about half price with the exchange so happy $ damage wasnt more

Car hasnt run so smooth with great pickup now since i got it about 60k ago.

Shifting up is a bit poppier and feels a bit different but i am taking that as a good sign

    Further sagas:

The car is running alot better now with more power etc but now i only get 450km to tank as opposed to 650km beforehand.

Very rich fuel smell still noticeable, particularly when sitting at lights etc, and can will still blow a bit of smoke at start up most of the time.

Something simple as a tune up?

Anyone know a decent VW mechanic around Parramatta? Need a mechanic who is competent and i can trust not to rip off the reasonably naive

You can't tune up modern VWs. There are no adjustments. There is possibly something else amiss with your car.

You need to get it scanned for faults.
