Have you removed the door handle blanks? If you haven't you'll need to as I think the latch is pivoted onto the plate. If you have and you've removed all the bolts you should be able to lift the plate up from the corner.
Hey guys, been trying for half an hour now can anyone tell me how to remove the metal plate on the inside of the door trim, i need to replace the door lock mechanism but i cant get this friccking plate off.. Seen a few tuturials but none are exact. Its a 2002 vw bora 4motion.. Excuse the crappy sideways photo from my iphone but this is what it looks like now.

disconnect the window from its runner ( throw a black grommet under the window motor ), then undo all the bolts holding to to the door frame and then it just pulls off you may have to lift it up then and angle it forward a little then pull back
You don't need to take that off to remove the door lock itself. In the end of the door is a blanking plug. remove this plug and look inside. See the torx screw, undo it all the way. This backs off a locking ring and you can then just pull the lock out of the door. Easy.
If you want the handle off the door, I can't help you.
Although the steel panel is connected to the window, so you need to remove the 2 blanks and drop the window until you can see the bolts that hold the window. Once you have slackened them off, lift the glass up and the panel should be free.

You have to remove the glass, release the lock module from the outer handle and the door frame.
Then remove all electrical connectors and take the silver panel off.
