    Vag-Com

    Hi All,

I am thinking about buying Vag-Com as i know it is an awesome kit of software and dont really want to buy the el' cheapo ebay leads and old software. I have been looking at the Ross-Tech website and am a little bit confused...
Is there a lead that i can buy that will suit both my 01' GTI and my dads 06' 2L FSI? or does the FSI have a newer diagnosis port? will it run fine on windows XP?
aaaaaand...is there any one on here that sells them?

    Any help appreciated! Cheers guys!!

Depending on what exactly you want to do with the thing, have a look in the parts for sale section at the V-Checker. It's a nice little hand held tool that you can do pretty much all the same stuff as the Vag-Com but for much cheaper and without having to have a laptop. If all you really want is to read and clear fault codes and only occassionaly modify or read a channel then it is the perfect tool.
Fuzion is the guy to hit up for one of these.
    Cheers,
    Trent

You want the HEX-USB+CAN Interface which will do anything from 1990 - 2008 (and who knows how many newer models).

It's US$349.00 from Ross Tech US
an extra US$50 if you want the 2x2 connector for some older models (you wont need it for either of your cars)
You could go all out and get the pro kit, but then it just has lots of stuff you don't need or want.

There are three local resellers (from the Ross Tech website) none of whom seem to have pricing on their website.

    cheers guys!

yer Fuzion pm'd me about that. I dont mind having to use a laptop tho cus i do have one. I am just curios if the V-Checker can do the same sort of stuff in the way of changing little bits and pieces, such as....window open/close on the key fob (for example, my car already does that, but thats the sort of thing i want to do).. can it do small things like that? or is it easier to use VAG-COM....oh and will V-Checker work on both my 01' GTI and my dads 06' FSI?
Clearing fault codes etc is also good, but i dont know a diagnostic tool that dsnt really do that anyway..

Yep the V-Checker can do those things. I know that as I did it on the R myself.
Also as far as I know the V-Checker will be able to do both of your cars.
For just over $100 you can't go wrong.
    Cheers,
    Trent

Hey mate. I've barely touched what the unit can do. I've only done the basics. Have a look here: http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ad.php?t=20011.
Also have a search for Fuzion's other for sale threads for the features. The manual is also available in the link above. Fuzion will also be able to help you out more than I can with all the features. I'm reasonably certain that nearly all the features that are available in Vag-Com are available with the V-Checker. The only thing I believe that isn't is the real time data logging and plotting due to the lack of a hdd etc.

it does *EVERYTHING* vagcom does including dealercode change etc.

its based on YOUR knowledge of rosstechs vagcom software.. works on ALL VAG vehicles. much cheaper option, and easier to use.

window/open close for mk4s will not work from vagcom at all, nor vchecker.. has to be vdspro or a kvw100 update module.
    What’s behind you doesn’t matter..

Hey fuzion being an independent and VERY used to the software i prefer VAGCOM but have to say that Vchecker is a good little tool. Can you get any for other OBD compliant vehicles that does that little bit more??????
