    V6 bora oil filter

    Hi guys,

I’m just wondering of anyone can tell where is the oil filter located on the engine and how to remove the oil filter on the 01 v6 bora?
I spend and hour looking for it still can’t find it.
    Help please !!!!!

    Thanks

There is a cast alloy filter mount bolted directly to the lower middle front of the block. The oil/water heat exchanger is bolted to the top of it.

It is next to the air conditioning compressor.

    Only accessable from below.

There is a plastic cap on the bottom of the cylindrical casting with a 36mm nut on it which unscrews the whole base so you can insert the paper element oil filter.

There is also a 6mm allen key in the middle of this big nut which you undo first to drain the oil out of the filter housing first (about 0.5 litres will come out)

You get two new o-rings in the filter kit, one for the plastic cap and a small one for the allen key. The small one is usually pushed onto the top of the paper filter when you buy the kit.

Remove it from new filter and put it on the allen key plug - do not leave it on top of the filter

You know, I've heard conflicting advice about removing the small o-ring on the top of the filter and using it for the drain plug.
Last 2 filters I've done myself I've left the top o-ring on.
    Anyone got any different advice??

The small o-ring is supplied to replace the small o-ring on the allen plug which is removed, to prevent a possible leak from reusing the old o-ring.

Its only clipped onto the new filter stalk so it doesn't end up lost inside the filter in transit.

But it will cause no harm if it's left on the filter stalk. If you look up into the hole where the filter sits, that part of the filter doesn't seal against anything inside the filter housing. It just pokes up into a big hole.

i have an advice, ask a mechanic to do it for you if you don't want to clean up oil spills after due to the unconventional design it is very difficult to change it without making a big mess.
