Get it scanned, and see what it says.
Possible crank sensor failure.
Does the fuel pump buzz when you unlock it and open the driver's door?
Hi All,
Had an issue with the bora this afternoon. After driving hm from wk I parked the car in the driveway went inside for about 20min came back out and it wouldnt start.
So it kicks over ok starter sounds strong. Batt Volt is 12.85 so okish.
I can hold it on start for 15sec or so and then it sligthy catches but then cuts out.
To me it sounds like a fuel supply issue but not sure. As I havent felt any surging before this.
Has anyone experienced something similar?
Should I look at possible knock sensor or another sensor?

Possibly a crank sensor. When they get warm they fail. When they cool down, they work again.
Needs to be scanned to confirm.

Thanks for the info. One of the lads at work have a scanner that they think should work so ill see how it goes.
Ironic that im employed indirectly by VAG and have 20 technicians at wk but they are all heavy diesel and we have our own factory tools but nothing for automotive.

Hey sounds alot like my golf, was crank or cam sensor I replaced both and it worked. It got steadily worse eventually leading to random shut-downs while driving
So connected the Autel Scanner and ran the diagnosis test.
All that came back as an error code was the coolant sensor. So not sure that the temp sensor would stop the car from starting.
Anyway ill that the opportunity to throw a new sensor and coolant in over the weekend ready for summer.

It can happen on this era VW, but it's not common.

even when I had a coolant sensor warning because I was refilling after flushing it, the car still started and ran. But different engine so maybe
